Stupid question #1:

Why does the 0-60 matter?

Stupid question #2:

Why not just google your question?

stay away from the black one, #2. it has had the trunk repainted, maybe has been rear ended? There is no VIN sticker in the lic. plate area and the badge is in the wrong spot, both are dead give aways. I would get #3, I like the blue inside.

Dude, you SUCK!!!

Actually, what I mean to say is that it's very cool that you are able to trade out of a 528 for an M5. Good for you! I'm not jealous at ALL. LeMans Blue FTW, in my opinion. Looks like you have some really nice cars to pick from.

Wait, what am I saying!??!! Dude, YOU SUCK!!!! :)

OK, seriously, good for you. I like the LeMans Blue, the first one, although see if Inspection II got done at 60K.

So, again, in closing, let me say that YOU SUCK!!!!!!

(OK, really, seriously...I'm kidding. Sorta.)

Cool and good for you guy... One piece of advice though, don't blow it all on a car, make sure you buy a house or some property.

+1. School parking isn't very good place to park an m5. Do you have any ideas how much is the car insurance if your 18 and driving m5?

A year 2000 is not all that bad. But, yes, there are some small changes otherwise that get a lot of people looking at 01's and newer.

I suggest you log into M5Board.com and start reading the stickied FAQ threads. There are a ton of them on buying a new car. Haste makes waste, take your time and don't jump into anything too soon. No matter what, have a PPI completed before purchase. These are not cheap cars to repair.

Good luck, you'll shit yourself how much fun the M5 is compared to your 528.

You may not need it now, but property will be a great investment for the future. You will really thank yourself for buying the property now instead of the car. I know a M5 in my hands when I was 18 was a disaster waiting to happen.

+1 Like parking your car at a supermarket. :shifty

I like #3. The blue leather is awesome looking. However, you may not get any service history since all 3 are at dealerships. Just my two cents...good luck buddy.

Id go for #1 b/c I like the interior best, and of course the LeMans blue. the blue leather in #3 is just too much for me. anyway you should definately get a M5 if you really can afford it, and by that I mean dont stretch yourself too thin. college fun was more expensive than I thought it would be between buying alcohol, clubbing, going out to eat, trips, gas, spring breaks, etc. I was constantly baffled by how I could spend $2500 or $3000 a month no problem on just random crap like that, not including school. and who cares if youre taking the M5 to college, I had a land rover and a bmw while in school and I never had a problem with either of them getting dings, being broken into, keyed etc. but then again Im in NC lol. where are you going to school?

the e39 m5 brochure says 0-60 in 4.8s

nothing wrong with an 00, cars produced prior to 3./00 have different piston rings, and require different oil, no big deal.

Your M5 would only be safe if you park it in your dorm so no one can touch it lol

congrats

and as mentioned above...

if the 528i is running good keep it and save your $$$

maybe after you're done with college u can buy a nice house and HAVE enuff left over for a downpayment on a newer m5!

but that's my though and i'm 13 yrs older and alot more practical.

i've been wanting a bmw for a while.

i told myself that I will only buy one once i have at least 2 houses...1 as a rental and 1 as a primary residence....

i had the above by the time i was 29 :)

so at 31 i bought my car...

i financed it at first and put 10k down.

since then i've paid most of it off...

i owe another 10k or so.

its a catch 22

on one hand u only live once and u want to make the most of it

on the other hand u only live once and u want to make sure you make the most 'practical' decisions....

anyways i'm not congratulating you on the car

i'll congratulate you on the fact that you're going to buy it on your own with your own money based on hard work and smart investing! :)

thank you very much everyone. everyones been a big help and ill be going to college in HOUSTON for a semester, but ill be doing some very detailed indept searching for an E39 M5 during this semester, and after 1st semester in Uni of houston , im transfering bak to NY for SUNY ALBANY or SUNY Stony Brook, which is when ill have by then hopefully found the perfect m5 for me and buy it. i know that if i dont pick the right one then ill have more $$ going out of my pockets sooner, so ill make sure to do a detailed check on the car. cant wait, ive driven m5's a couple times, i absolutly love it.

bigm77,

Good for you! I love my 540i, but wish I'd been a bit more educated when I was purchasing a couple months ago as I didn't realize e39 M5s were in my budget.

If you do end up at Suny Stony Brook, you won't have to worry much about haters/vandals. Stony Brook is a pretty nice area and there is plenty of money in the three village area so that shouldn't be too big a concern. Also, I'm assuming you'd live off campus as it is my understanding that the housing provided is inadequate...

yea i heard stony brook doesnt have undergrad freshman parking. so id have to find a place to put my car or hold off in driving it everyday for 1 more semester. Ive went up to stony brook, very nice place love the surrounding area.

Be sure to look into some sort of warranty for the M5 if you decide to purchase one. 2000 had carbon buildup issues, and as for the oil part, some have large oil consumptions and others doesnt and it affects all years. My 03 drinks about 1 qt every month fyi. Good luck on your search, just be safe, if I had a M5 when I was 18, I might not be writing this right now.
