Found a 91 black on black one owner dealer maintained car driving down the road on Sunday it was a mess with an older couple and there dog driving got the guy to roll down his window and asked if he wanted to sell he replies yes lets start at 10k he puls over nice car no accidents and no paint work good interior we agree on 8500 and he tells me hes has dealer sceduled maintenence on Tuesday and wants them to make sure everything is ok before I drive it away we know the problem thats going to happen at the dealer Tuesday so I try and buy the car last night but he just will not sell unless he comfortable with the car be checked out what a nice old guy still as soon as he gets up to the dealer you know he going to talk to someone about selling and sure enough I get the late call in the afternoon hoping it was time to go get my new ride but sure enough the tech at the dealer wants to buy it for the 8500 and fix the problems that arose today. They say there is an ac part needed for better circulation and will be in in the morning but after further inspection the head gasket may be leaking and they quoted him 6 to 8 hour labor so if they new ahead he was selling or that when the selling part came out whos to know I told him we had already agreed on the sale and to have the ac part fixed and get an estimate for the head repair and we can meet in the morning he says he will go along with that. This is just one of those lucky finds where the guy really does not know what he owns probably just going by KBB I asked him for vin on Monday to do a carfax and he asked what is car fax so I know the 8500 is just a fabulous deal but is it still a good deal with a leaking head gasket or is that just the begginnig of my problems please advse and thanks ahead of time if I go with it I will post pics for you all Charles

Grab it!....Don't let it go if its good otherwise....may have a minor leak but if nothing serious so what? It is not a new car, car get leaks. For the A/C, I think it is BS....maybe dealer wants to make $$$ and scaring him off

Even if you had it fixed, it is a good investment.

At the dealer the guy had tires rotated oil changed new wipers and those type of fixing done to the car today and the ac was part of it so that stuff he will fix and still sell at the 8500 so I am hoping all goes well in the morning and I can pick it up and close the deal. So if the head is leaking not a real big deal as long as it is external leak right ? But those little oil leaks are sure annoying as I own a very nice 92 Porsche 968 and when it leaks it drives me crazy. How serious of a job is it really 6-8 hours? What else should I be looking for? Thanks Charles

head gaskets are always PITA, parts is cheap, it's the labor that we all hate. yeah I'd say half a day if you are a skilled mechanic.

it is not my intention to hijack this thread from rmdsolutions.
i have similar questions.
hopefuly this bump will prompt rmdsolutions to let us know what happened in the end.

a friend of mine has a 1989 m3 sitting in his farm that belongs to his nephew.

im considering buying it depending on how much they want for it.

the car has 183,000 on it.

unfortunately it has been sitting under lovely california sun for about 4 years. fortunately (or unfortunately) its a white car so its harder to tell how much damage has been done by the sun.

one tire is flat so im assuming i'll need to buy 4 tires for it.

maybe brakes too to be on the safe side. calibers look rusty.

of course i'll need a new battery.

the engine looks clean.
no visible leaks.
oil in engine looked clean too.
interior looks perfect.
the inside of the exhaust pipe is quite corroded too.

i seems as if whoever owned the car was taking pretty good care of it.
until he decided to leave it sitting in the farm that is.

my question is, is there red flags i should be looking for when looking at this particular model?

judging by the limited information i have provided here, what would you say is a fair price tag for it?

how much life is left on a 183000 mile engine?

thank you very much in advance for your feedback you lucky m3 owners.

peace.

The outcome is that the dealer upset the owner and he picked up the car in the afternoon and called me and told me it was ready for me to come and buy so I got off work picked up my son and we went and bought it. It has cleaned up very nicely and I will need to order a few things to make it complete like passenger fog driver lens and the grills that go in the air dam to cover tow hook and empty space and fix the a/c otherwise the car is great drove it all weekend and this week. I also own a 92 Porsche 968 coupe and thought the M3 would be more comparable but the 968 is a faster and more solid feeling car so I will have to make a decision on which to keep as I can not afford both. How do i post a photo? Charles

This is the longest run on sentence I have ever read. Anyway, that sounds like a great deal. How many miles on the car?
