This weekend i had packed up my appartment, loaded it all into a 24 ft truck with a trailer which had my dodge on the back and drove my 540 down to Jacksonville Florida, which is now my new home. The car had been driving flawlessly for the entire trip, ice cold a/c, no shakes, sport seats in all their thigh hugging glory, crusin at 80-90mph, no cops. Then all of a sudden, a slight shudder, WHACK, BAM, a few seconds later i saw the temp gauge creep a little past 3/4's and shut her down, coasted to the side of I-95, stopped, opened the hood and found what i knew was coming...:mad:mad:help:rolleyes:shifty:eek:...AND NO AAA of coarse...a tow from Sav GA to Jax FL $579 in a tow truck w/o A/C and a top speed of 55mph....kill me now

Took the car apart today...parts will be here on thursday...all because of the stupid water pump bearing which had no play before i left..and the radiator was only a year old:(

-Radiator
-Thermostat and seal ring
-Water Pump and gasket
-2 belts
-bottle of water wetter
-Fan shroud
-Fan
-BMW coolant
-Fan Clutch

Wow, that's gotta suck. My flex disc went behind my car in about 20 different pieces near Lake City, on I-75. Luckily there was enough still attached to keep my car mobile. Hope everything comes out okay, and while you're at it, I would do the fan delete mod and replace it with an electric one.

Wow. That really sucks. Kind of reminds me when I broke down in Baltimore, Maryland in my U-Haul when I was moving from Connecticut. The fuel pump died. 9 hours of complete hell, stuck on the side of the road.

BMW officially sucks at cooling systems. :mad

Glad to hear you're alright and that you shut down your car before any real damage occurred.

Man dude that suks. On the plus side you will have an all new cooling system living in the heat/humidity down south.

Might want to check into R&R all the tensioners since the whole front is torn off. Its a time consuming job but yours is already apart.

thanx guys for the support...yea i might get new tensioners, but the problem is, this is my only transportation at the moment, due to my dodge having a hole in the piston, and im not sure when and if i can get them by friday...i start my new job on monday and need to get this done, it wont feel like home until i fix her

Fixed. I think that has happened to quite a few people that own other BMWs. It happened to my dad 7 years ago on his F150. Except on his, it destroyed the radiator. Atleast his still had form to it, lol.

So are you in Jacksonville yet?? How are you liking it?

Sorry to hear your misfortune.

that really does suck. which reminds me when I decide to do my intake gaskets in the future i might as well replace my belt, fan clutch and water pump. Already have the water pump. Just need the rest of the parts.

dont fret mate, once you get it back on the road u will be good for a long time.

Wow, nice. $750/month living by yourself, or splitting it with roommates??? You couldn't find a place like that here for double that amount of money.

Also, what line of work are you in that brought you there, if you don't mind my asking?

Lots of development going on in Florida, and you're getting the tail end of it. 2 years ago an 8 year old could get financed to bulldoze a field of puppies and start a "gated, contemporary lifestyle housing community", and now a lot of Florida is overdeveloped, and the units just aren't selling, so new property prices and rent is coming way down.

BTW, welcome to Florid-AH, where the speed limit is an unofficial 55mph from November until March :) Also, you can get cited for not leaving your blinker on 24-7.

Seriously though, welcome. I've got friends in Jax. Nice area. I woulda helped you out if you were up there. Good luck!

Interesting. It's kind of that way here a bit out west, where they have been constructing development after development and they just aren't selling at the prices they had hoped for.

:lol

If you think FL is bad, come to VA. These cops are just complete and utter douches.

:confused $750 is about the highest you could ever possibly pay here. Most rents in a nice apartment complex are about $600/month. In a year, Ill be moving in and taking over my Aunt's nice apartment in Lubbock. Its 1block from the campus at Tech, Duplex style, driveway and garage, 2 bed, 1 bath, full kitchen, all for $300/month. No pool, but I can just go swimming 24/7 at Tech

Shit, I guess stuff in Texas is way cheaper than every where else

Damn, that's a steal. Good luck finding anything here for under $1,000/month that's halfway decent.
