Hey all.. I recently noticed that the underside of the side panels and fender have some rust showing. It's mainly under the jack points, but also under the front left fender as well. It looks like the protective rust guard has taken a beating over the years, and exposed some raw metal, which in turn is rusting. Not to mention the protective material peeling back and flapping around slightly. On a side note, the side of the car, and visible part of the fenders are 100% rust free.. they look new. This problem is only underneath.

I've been browsing through numerous threads looking for techniques or methods to deal with this without cutting it out. There must be a way to cover this.. with tremclad, paint, bondo, rubberized stuff, etc? Any ideas? Keep in mind it will be under the car so it doesnt have to look entirely pretty.

you can try to treat it yourself or bring it to a pro..

eithor try with HD sand paper and use an anti rust solvent before and after ...all over

or you can get it sand blasted at a local bodyshop and then seal it with more rust solvent..get the car rust proofed as well

I actually brought it to 2 places today for opinions.. the first guy said to rust proof it, and live with it the way it is. The second guy wants to sand blast and replace all sorts of pieces, but it'll run me $1200! ACK! Any particular brands of rust solvent out there that you'd recommend? Also, would it be a good idea to paint over it after?
