So, I first want to start off by saying it’s my first post here and I'm a soon-to-be owner of my first BMW. Here's my story and question.

I went to my local dealer who by the way also sells Audi and Porsche. I have purchased 2 A4's and a Boxster S from said dealership. I went in to test out a 3 series, drove it and fell in love. Since it was my first I didn't know anything about them and the packages and options they offered. he gave me the standard salesman schpeal, but no pressure to get a deal today, gave me the info and brochure and I went on my way. I did my research, figured out what I wanted on the car and called him back 2 weeks later. Left him a message. 2 days go by, nothing. I call back again leave another message, nothing. I go in and he's there so I get with him and go over the options I want and he searches and nothing comes close so we have to order. He places an order (so he says) and he comes back and gives me round numbers, but is rushing me out of there. I call him back the next day to make 1 minor change with the order and to firm up the exact price. Nothing. I wait 4 days call him back again he's at lunch says he'll call me in a few. Nothing. At this point I'm done with him. I go online to another dealerships website and they have a feature to build your car and make an offer. so I built the same car and made an offer, they guy calls me back and emails me within a few hours and accepts the offer. He even said I was a little high and lowered the price I offered to pay. So I decide he's my new salesman. the next day he has a VIN for me to track on the OC site and a week later It's on its built and on its way to the ship!
So last night the first guy calls me and says he ordered me my car and waited a little bit cause the '08 328i's were just a week away from when I placed my order. I think he's blowing smoke up my ass and never placed the order. I told him I'd call him back cause I couldn't talk. Before I call him back and chew his ass and the dealership out I want to get my facts straight. Are the '08's being built yet? And Was I out of line to go to another dealership for the lack of attention I was getting? (after buying 3 other cars from them)

Oh by the way, this is what I am (un)patiently waiting on...

You can't order an 07 at this point, I think all orders will be 08s. Unless they had one coming with what you wanted from a previous allotment they probably couldn't order anything, I don't even think pricing is out yet.

The best part of this area is that there are 13 different dealers in 75 miles, you don't have to use some idiot sales person. Go the the dealer you bought your 3 cars from and talk to the manager.

BMW NA DOES NOT ALLOW 2 dealers to place an order under the same name. I know so because after I put my deposit at one dealer, I shopped around and I was going to go to another dealer but the latter told me I had to cancel the 1st order for him to be able to do anything, BMW regulations according to him. Well I used that to bargain with the 1st guy who was pissed because he thought the 1nd guy broke the rules by making me an offer when I was already on their list.
Short story, your 1st dealer was full of B S. You did the right thing.

I ordered my 335, which is being built in the next couple of days (thank god) on July 23rd, and it's going to be an '07. My dealer said something about the '08 production not being started until September. As for your problem, you did the right thing. It sounds like the guy was an a-hole, so take your business elsewhere. Goodluck with the wait, it's only been a week for me and it's killing me, haha.

Well it sounds like my gut was right, when I placed that order with the new dealership my name would have shown up if there was a car already in progress for me. I haven't changed my name in the last few weeks ;)

Hey bucky!
Ordered my 335i yesterday. For the 335i, the last build month is August. Said 6-8 weeks.
I know the dealership you went to. I stopped by there myself. I have heard things about them as well and I wound up ordering mine at the next dealer north.
Cheers fellow T.O. resident!

You can order a car under your own name at every dealership if you wanted. BMW NA is in the market to sell cars, and a name is not even needed to order one. The dealer can place your name on the order and that makes it easy to sort out who's car is who's, but wont stop one order from being placed. I've have clients order a car from me and also order an additional car from another dealer because I couldn't get another allocation for the same car.

I wouldnt second guess myself too much and he is likely full of crap in saying he already ordered you a car. You would likely have had to sign SOMETHING before they would put in an order so if you didnt he is not only lazy and playing you like your stupid but he is also a liar. I would call the boss at that place and tell him why he lost you for life as a customer if your really pissed otherwise leave them in the dark and get on with waiting for your new toy - best of luck.

Well not in Canada. Once you sign the pre-agreement and put down a deposit, you need to annul that before doing it again at another dealer. Seems BMW Canada doesn't want dealers fighting over people, not good business. BMW NA in the US might be more polygamous!

I never signed anything, I don't have anything in writing or email, nor did I give him any money. I think I'm just going to "have to call him back" when he finally calls me with my car ready. And when I drive by in my BMW with other dealer plates on he might get the point. I'm not to worried, it worked out for the better. I got a better price, this new dealership gives loaner cars when yours is in for service, and they are so friendly and fair.
