Guy I work with said he cannot get the radio out of his E24. any tips or tricks?

there are little trim tabs on either side of the deck in the center of the unit. pull those out with a small screwdriver and a fairly small allen wrench should do the trick.

warning: be prepaired to rewire the whole unit. run a yellow wire strait to the battery, run a red wire strait into the ignition fuse in the fuse box under the hood on the drivers side. running these wires should be relitively easy, just use pre-existing holes in the firewall. clean everything up with zip ties.
Run a ground wire to anything touching metal, a great place to do this is the negitive post on the battery. its a perfect ground!
next you will need to run new speaker wire to every speaker. this is the easy part.

Be carefull with the Allen wrench, the cap screw is actually a five sided hole instead of the std six of the Allen wrench (BMW's idea of anti-theft!!). If you're careful not to round out the hole, you can use an Allen wrench.
