It took way longer that it probably should have and it was really hot, but I replaced my stock head unit with a blaupunkt mp46. I have an '89 so I had to hard wire it to the new unit's wires. It was pretty easy despite my crappy all in one wire cutter/stripper/crimper being really hard to operate with any great speed. I followed the instructions from a few other threads and websites, managed to get all the cables back into the dash and fired it up. Everything worked. No bad connections or crossed wires. The fader works properly and there's no noise. :alright

How'd you do it? Wired the negative speaker leads together, spliced the positives to the car's wires, hooked up the power wires and called it a day?

I capped the - speaker wires and attached the bmw's - speaker wire bundle (it's two wires pinched together in a loop connector on the old style) to the unit just like on the stock unit. All the power connections spliced straight across. A few wires aren't used on the units connector so I capped those as well. I used butt connectors and then put electrical tape over. I didn't take pictures but I could probably make a diagram.

Mainly, I was wondering if you messed with the amp/crossovers at all.

I'm surprised your setup can fade. All aftermarket headunits I've heard of in an E34 can't fade if wired as a direct replacement (as opposed to bypassing the E34's electronics).

My aftermarket headunit fades just fine. I got a harness adaptor, and wired that up, and it works great. It runs through the stock amp with (seemingly) no problems.

Mine did the same also. Now everything is aftermarket.

Then again, moroza and dovstar have 1989 E34s, there is no adapter harness for it so the old school way is the only way.

I didn't touch the amp or crossovers. Strictly a head unit rewiring.
