Greetings to all....new 335i 4dr/6m owner. This is my first posting in this forum, which I must say is the best on the net. This might also be the dumbest thread I may ever post in here. I am sure many of you can answer this question for me in only a few words....but here it goes.

The IPOD adapter that is included in the IPOD package from the factory is leaving me stumped. I have over 200 artists in my IPOD and it takes forever to search through the artists, starting in the A's. Is there a way to make playlists in Itunes to alleviate this headache? There has to be an easier way to go through the songs, other than going from A to Z, which takes 10 minutes, or just cycling through randomly. Please help. Thanks in advance guys.

You can look up music all kinds of other ways besides artist. Some ways to do it in a hurry is go to genre, most popular, or purchased. The knob is very slow if you go A to Z, I am assuming you do not have iDrive?

Consult your iTunes help on how to create playlists or smart-playlist (which are dynamic playlists that update as you add songs based on rules you set). It is very easy and a good way to organize what you want to play most often. If you really want to search artists all the time, you should be able to create playlists by alphabetic order (say A-D, E-H, etc.) to ease navigation.

I know how to do the playlists via itunes, but where might these playlists show up on my non-i drive 335? I have clicked the LIST category and it says that it is empty....what do i do?

In iTunes under your iPod, right click on your iPod in iTunes and add a playlist and from there just drag and drop songs to that playlist, when you disconnect your iPod from iTunes you should be able to see that playlist in you iPod. It's really easy to do...

If that didn't answer your question I suggest finding iPod related forum where people do this for a living hehe...

yes, i do realize that this is how you create a playlist for the ipod in itunes, but my point is that i cannot find these playlists once i plug it into the usb in the 335. Where might i find these playlists? Thanks again.

They should be under LIST. If not, then maybe your iPod is not connected properly or you have a problem with the module!

Ditto. On my non-iDrive 335, the playlists show up just fine under "LIST".

Searching by artist is too slow. I have set up lots and lots of playlists, which are easily accessible by the headunit of the IPOD.

It was explained to me that people with an insane amount of music will have some issue with the system. If you have a large amount of "lists" (shown on the left of the itunes interface) you may want to reduce that...I know everybody wants every song at their finger tips, but I bet most listen to 10% of the songs they have on their ipods.

I have the ipod integration option on my 335. On my last car, I had a current generation Alpine HU w/ipod integration. IMHO, the 335 integration is good, but not up to the level of the Alpine. The Alpine scrolled faster through lists. The Alpine allowed you to use buttons 1-6 to jump to increasing percentages into lists. I have several hundred artists on my ipod. Being able to jump to X% into the list of them was very useful; I used that feature every day.

That said, most ipod integrations stink, so the BMW being the second best I've seen is still good enough in my book.

I'm definitely not in the "most category". I have ~8GB or 1300+ songs, I have few playlists most including 90%+ of the songs. No issues here, but I don't go crazy on playlists, either have the all inclusive, or a few specialized ones (certain genres for example).

I usually make a "what I like this month" playlist.

The important thing is that they DO show up on the head unit, and I think that if you assign #s or abc they come up first. For instance I have one called 90s music and it comes up first.

ok, ok....i figured it out...it appears that no one bothered to tell me that there is a special ipod adapter that is supposed to come with this factory BMW USB option. I was using the usb ipod adapter that comes with the ipod. Two days later...someone finally fills me in on this....thanks for all the responses anyway guys.
