After breaking in, I unleashed the beast and drove my 335i to feel "the ultimate driving machine." Boy, was I impressed?! I couldn't believe I rev up to almost the redline around 6500 rpm +/-. When I realized it, I ease off. But I admit it felt good. How far have you guys rev up on this Bavarian beauty? Better yet, have you redline it? Just curious.

Yeah one time on accident I bounced it off the rev limiter... I blame the car, it gets there way too fast!!

Only the dealer test drive car. Got for a weekend in early March to test drive. Glad I did not buy that car after I ragged it out. Have to admit though, I do drive my car spirited at times. Can't help not to.

It will spin up to 7000rpm or so if you let it, but most guys shift around 6500. Boost drops off fast over 6500rpm to the factory tune, so you're usually better off shifting.

I get close to the redline (7k rpm) but the auto keeps it in check. EXCEPT one time, where I floored it in second gear. For a brief second the rpms read 7500-8000 (no kidding, it really happend) since the auto chose to downshift to first.

It really scared me. Has anyone experienced this? Shouldn't there be a mechanical rev limiter like in a manual car?

Btw, this being my first auto, I was a bit surprised when I wasn't allowed to bounce of the rev limiter when revving it in neutral. It just froze a few rpms short of 7000. Also happens when you, ahem, stretch it out to the speed limiter. All the needles just stop moving. Wierd :)

I put it into DS mode and punched it. It reved up to 5500 rpms though. Maybe it was higher but I wasn't looking, I was looking ahead at all the cars I had to maneuver around. My commute is only 13.5 miles and by the time the engine temp is 220 or so I am at work. I don't want to push it while the engine is cool.

That's what happened to me too MrWorf. I did happen to get to 7000 rpm +/- and it downshifted back to 1st. I have an automatic too. Not sure what's going on. I haven't reach the end limit of my speedometer where everything freezes YET either. Heh.

Pound it off the limiter at the top of third all the time. it won't hurt it, that is what it is there for! Upshifting, Now downshifting NEVER!
