Am totally new. Just bought a 80 633CSi off of EBay. FYI, got pretty screwed, but filed a complaint w/EBay auctions and got $2,900 back so EBay does have buyer protection in case anyone wondered.

It pulls a lot and we recently determined existing wheels are warped/bent. Price to fix is pretty close to new so I'm not going that route. Because of bent wheels tire wear is bad so I'm going to get new tires/wheels.

The car is being worked on by Peforming Imports here in Atlanta. It has 16's on it. They recommend no bigger than 16's, keep the same size front and rear, must be hubcentric.

Go to any of the websites, and you'll find original BMW wheels but nowhere to buy them, original specs for the 14's but not for 16's. Go to the sites and plug in 1980 BMW 633 CSi and virtually every website shows you 18's. I'm not kidding, I spent 3 hours googling and yahooing Tuesday night.

The only thing I found was on Bekkers. RoCross ( never heard of them ) 16x7 or 7.5 for $165. As well, I want to put the BMW hub in them and it didn't appear I could do that with the RoCross, although that is not make or break. As well, website didn't state if they were hubcentric or not and I wasn't ready to touch base w/Bekkers until I got more options.

I'm at my wit's end. I've got recommendation for a set of 4 Kumho's 205 55 16's for $400 which I'm fine with. I would like to spend around $800 for wheels. I know that I could and might spend a lot more, but this isn't a show car, just a reasonable nice shark that I hope to gradually bring back over a few years.

I welcome all posts, apologize for length but hoping that a thorough explanation would avoid additonal postings explaining what I should have said in the first place!

Here is a local option - you'll need hubcentric rings (easy & cheap from tire rack) for the wheels from E39's - though these seem to say they are a direct fit.

You can do 15" too...

I'd call TireRack and see what they say...

Wow! I appreciate your noticing that for me. I'm not smitten by those wheels but they certainly are a good value. As well, the tip on getting the hubcentric rings cheap from Tire Rack is appreciated. I did set up a post to Jim on the other forum and will check back there now to see what he came up with

Contact Tire rack or Discount tire, they both have really good selections of tire wheel combinations, prices are good and they have everything you need to get them on.

this is a good resource. You can search all over the place, not just 1 at a time

Good luck!

check out ebay for wheels. you can easily go to a 17" wheel. watch out for 7series 16" wheels, the typical ones with 23offset tend to rub on the suspension. 5series wheels fit well but need hubcentric rings unless they are post '03. 8 series wheels should fit fine. btw, although TRack recommends a smaller size, there is now a better fitting size available. 235/50-16 is a perfect fit and about as wide as will normally fit up front. the only tires i've found in that size are from Toyo and look like a perfect match for our cars. Tire rack doesn't carry them

I was having the same problem finding wheels for my 633. I wanted to get some 16s so I could use my old tires, but couldnt find anything decent no matter where I looked.

I ended up just going with some ASA AR1 17s and new Kumho Ecsta tires. Was a little more expensive but really the only option I could find for new wheels.

Those are nice wheels - you'll be pleased. Post some pix when you get them!

Thank you. I really like them. I got them from TireRack for $140 each. Not too bad I think as I have seen them elsewhere for $200+. They threw in bolts, rings and mounting/balancing for free as well. I really like the fact that they are made with licensed BBS technology.

I really wanted to keep my current wheels(16" Gold BBS mesh w/ polished lip) but they are just too worn out and would be to expensive to have refinished and straightened.

I decided to replace my aging upper and lower control arm bushings along with new sway bars and links while I have it jacked up. Hopefully it will ride even smoother than it already does.

Sorry for hijacking the thread though. I will post a new thread when I have the wheels on.

How well do those fit your 633? I have an '86 635 that I want to put lager wheels with lower profiles on and the pattern on the wheels that you bought are exactly what I have been looking for. I also want to go to a slightly wider tire to fill out the fender wells a bit more.
How do the 17"s feel? I don't want to totally ruin the ride of my car.

I will let you know all about them when I have them on and have given it a few test runs. I bought the 17x8 but they also have a 17x9 to support a wider tire if you can squeeze them in.

I did speak with TireRack however and they said the rim (17x8) and tire (225/45ZR17) combination should work just fine on my 6.

I wouldnt dream of posting without pictures ;)

Once the wheels are on, I am going to wash/wax, shine all the black plastics/tires, polish all the chrome and have it looking its absolute best.

Maybe I will even find a nice area on my property somewhere to take the pics so no one has to look at my dingy car garage. Haha. I should have them up in about 3-4 days from now.
