I used to have a 99 M coupe (s52 240hp) and i was happy with the power and everything. lately i've been looking at Z4 Coupes, do you think it would be comparable to my 99 M Coupe in terms of power and handling?

Most of my experience is in roadies not the coupe but the s54 motor makes a lot more noticeable power than the s52 and the Z4 ride overall seems a little more 'sophisticated' compared to the Z3 platform. A Z4 30si makes more power than the s52 M and I felt the 3.0si sport package coupe I drove was more rewarding than the old M. I love my new M roadster. It is a fun little monster so the coupe should be as well and a better track car. I am not a track guy so I am sure one of them could be more definitive.

As Ianbiz said the curret coupe is only 3.0si and in sport package it is sweet. I think it has some M badges and interior parts including seats. As a daily driver and not a track car it would a heads up winner over a s52 MC in all areas for me. The local dealer here has 3 new Z4 coupes in stock at the moment and this isn't normal for them. One has been there for a couple of months so I am not sure how well they are selling.

The '99 MC is also a 3.2L making only 240 hp. The Z4MC's 3.2L makes @333hp. The 3.0si makes 255hp if I remember correctly.

The z4 board seems to be just as bad as the E36 board regarding mis-information...

The confusion may lie in the fact that there are two engine choices (215 and 255 hp 3.0l) for the non-M Z4 Roadster, while the non-M Z4 Coupe has only one: 255 hp 3.0l .

I think I was trying to convey that but oh well...I was wondering why the OP didn't just go test drive one to find out!

ill say the s52 is a tad faster than the 3.0si, but the 3.0si will drive better aka suspension wise... brakes are one thing i am uncertain about

the old m coupe is still sexier looking though...thats a fact hands down

I think the old M (5.4 sec) is actually .1-.2 sec faster 0-60 than the Z4 3.0si (5.5-6sec)depending on who you read. 1/4 mile - M = 13.8 sec , SI 14.0 sec. The hp/torque on the M is 240hp/238 ft-lbs and the SI is 255hp/220 ft-lbs. Skid pad had the M at .88 and the SI at .93; 60-0 mph - M =120 ft., SI = 110 ft. So it would seem that performance is close and handling may go to the Z4 coupe.

.1 sec difference is tough enough to maintain between runs in the same car, much less comparing two different cars. So unless the difference was closer to half a second, I wouldn't bet one over the other.

just as i said.... the m is faster, the si will handle better...

I just found a Motor Trend article that had an SI roady running the 1/4 @13.8 sec, braking at 104 ft., skid pad at .94g. They are close enough that if the OP liked the old Mcoupe performance he wouldn't be too disappointed in Z4 coupe and that was my original point.

I had Z3 coupe but traded in 3 days ago for Z4 coupe. I love the handling and power of my new coupe especially when use sport button on highway.

These cars have so much more power with the sport button depressed!
