Well, I now see that the window regulator going out is pretty common in these cars. I picked up my 2002 BMW 330CI this weekend and I'll be damned if after owning the car for 3 days, this happens....When I roll down my driver side window, it makes a grinding noise, rolls down ridiculously slow and only goes down 3/4 of the way down. Rolling up is the same thing and I have to "help" my window go all the way up.
Any advice on whether or not the motor is bad, or just the regulator? Also, I have searched but can't find the DIY on this. Can you help me locate one?
Thanks in advance for the help guys!!

Locating a DIY I cannot help much. But as long as you don't mess with the window too much, with the regulator being messed up, the motor should be OK. I can walk you through the steps if you cannot find a DIY. Just PM me if you need to.

It tells you how to take the regulator out. Motor should be fine, the sound is from the regulator. With the door panel off you can take the motor off without taking the regular out, with the 3 star/allen bolts holding it in, twist the motor to clear the bracket and it pulls right out. Taking the motor out first also makes it easier to take the regulator out as my first time i had issues and scratched the tint on my window.

Thanks for the advice ImportFanatic.......As a side note, I have seen folks on the forum say this regulator is a $90 part. The cheapest I have found online is $140 (part number: O3040-177342). Do you know where I can find it cheaper?

There's a long thread that follows the DIY that is worth reading, IMO. I've only done a rear window thus far, but I keep this one bookmarked.

very nice DIY. There's enough detail to use it for rear door too.
