Any opinions on coilovers for 2002 325i? I like the adjustability of the coilovers....thinking about the bavauto set or the PSS's or even the PSS9's, though I really just want to adjust to where I want, do the wheel alignment once, not necessarily to keep changing back and forth for track/street. Suggestions? Or any other opinions on just doing separate springs/shocks instead? I want the drop without sacrificing too much ride quality and no rub of course on non-sport 325 with 18s, 225/40 front and 255/35 rears. Thanks fellas.:help

I know Bilstein's are nice, same with H&R coilovers. I'm running Tein SS-P's, same with my friend John which we're both running 18x8's with 225/40/18. Pretty much any coilovers you run you're going to expect to feel pretty bumpy when you hit bumps but on smooth roads or on the freeway it's reallly smooth especially for messing around on the street or even on the track.

You can pick up Tein basic damper kit for about $900-$1,000 just double check on Tein site. Not many people run Tein coilovers because many people didn't think they made them for bimmers but thankfully they do now because for many years they were built straight for hondas, acuras, nissans, etc..

In my honest opinion it all varies on how much you really want to spend..

the Bilsteins are a good street kit. i have also heard nothing but good about the Tein kits either. unless you just want to stay all 'euro' on your car then i would keep these as an option. if you are not going to track alot, why not just some springs and adjustable konis? or adjustable konis with Ground Control C/O.

See, I thought I had it narrowed down and now I'm not sure! The bavarian autosport is only $700....I guess I need to look at the koni shocks...but then what springs? H&R sports?

yes H&R Sports. haha suspension choices are a bitch!

I think you and a couple other guys in the club told me to get the H&R sports...so that's prob the way to go to get the drop and softer ride. You think the koni's are best...does the adjust raise/lower or just affect ride quality?

I know you told me before, but what's your setup?

the Konis only affect ride stiffness. if you want height adjustability then you can go Ground Control sleeve/spring coilovers and Koni Adjustables. that is ultimately the street suspension that I want but i dont want to spend the money on it yet.

i have H&R race/Bilstein Sport.

Just to make your decision even more difficult, check out ASTs as well. Can't remember the vendor's name who sells them, but they're a site sponser and located in TX... and it begins with V.

I love my suspension but right now my bilstein front struts are out; Before I rolled and pulled my fenders it was rubbing enough to be annoying but that's because I have wider tires (235/40). I pulled out my fender so much that the next set of tires I buy will be 235/45 and I shouldn't rub. I did tried out the H&R racing springs and those bent my fenders out! But I think you'll be ok with the sport set, it's not as drop as the racing set and plus you'll have good stiff struts.

But I have 255s on my rear....pretty wide....only 225s on the front. Is it stupid for me to think of only doing lowering on the front, sport shocks all around? Performance issues and bad looks comes to mind . . .

I didn't know you had 255 in the back but your body is wider than mines also.. I don't think you should have a problem. I think Jed upgrading his tires to 255 next.

Neither the front nor the rear look like they're close to the lip, so maybe I'll be ok...I don't mind rolling since you guys are experts at it already. So what do you think..Konis and H&R sports? Trying to keep under a grand (includes mounts though) with no rubbin and as smooth a ride as possible.

You work in that building on the curve north of the runway? That must be your car..

I just got my set in from Vorshlag. They look great, and the quality is superb. I can't wait to put them in along with my UUC tranny mounts. Hopefully I can do it this weekend. :evil2

The cup kit is a larger drop than the sport springs....but, any rubbing? What size tires do you have?

Coilovers are pretty safe since they're adjustable though.....I just don't know if it's worth the extra cost. What size tires/wheels you runnin and do you adjust much and therefore get wheel alignments much?

Anyone know a shop that can do alignments on beamers once the springs are done? I know that special equipment is needed (200lbs in the rear sear or something) that local hibdons, etc doesn't have....thanks!

Merle's on Shields can do the alignment. It is by appointment only though.

Okay, I know, I know...give it a rest GREG! I was thinking...could I just buy the H&R sports for now and get the shocks next spring.....I drive my car like 50 miles max a week. The reason I ask is cause it looks like whether you have sport stock sport suspension or stock non sport suspension, the shocks are the same....and since H&R sport are barely shorter than oem sport package...shouldn't the stock shocks do well...at least until next spring (maybe 500 miles on the odometer)?

JedzE36/5
07-28-2007, 10:54 PM
they would be ok for a little bit. the stock shocks are valved with a longer piston shaft meaning if you lower the car with the larger piston, you will get less travel. but then again you dont drive the car that much. the question is whether or not you want to do the work twice.

e46sooner

I know...exactly what I was thinking...Springs are a couple hundred but shocks are like $600...I should prob just wait. Dangit

Actually, do YOU want to do it twice!? Cause you know your employeed for this job!
