I know this sounds lame, but I've seen where a few members have brought their cars in at 1200 miles for a first service. I have read my documentation completely and see no mention of a service requirement before the first oil change at approximately 15K Miles. I'm now at 2500 miles. Should I call for a sevice appointment?

There is no requirement for a break in oil change except on the M's. There are tons of threads on this. Do it for piece of mind if you want to. I did mine at 1800 miles at an independent BMW shop for $68 just becasue I felt better doing it. I'm not sure though if it will make any difference with the motor in the long run. Obviously make sure they use the right oil and filter which the independents I think all do anyway if they are good. Then change the oil every 7500 miles if you are going to keep it. If it is a lease, why waste money? just do it every year or whenever the car tells you to bring it in.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks. It is a lease so I will be following the recommendations.

My dealer told me 15,000 or when computer tells, what will happen first. I wouldn't recommend to visit dealer earlier because you have risk that service people will break something. It always happens for me.

I agree. Bring it to them only when necessary. So far, no need :-)

The car gets worse whenever it comes out from the service department.

I like to change the oil/filter between intervals, about every 7-8000 miles. $40-50 and a small amount of my time is pretty cheap peace of mind.

What exactly does the 1200 mile service include? Just an oilchange? Did a quick search and didn't find a list.

Oil change, gearbox oil change, differential oil change, lots of diagnostics...it is described in checklist form in your warranty booklet (where you get the dealership stamp validating that you had the service done).
