I just bought a new 2008 BMW 528i. I am planning to buy extended warranty to help after the standard 50,000 mile warranty BMW gives. Is it a good idea? How much it may cost and what are the best places to buy around Chicago area. I am also interested in understanding how it works and what it covers. I would appreciate any links. I found this in cars.com about warranty direct. Is that a good option? Is it accepted most of the places? Please advise.

Sit with any serv mgr (BMW, Chev, Ford, etc.) They will tell you, that if you do want an ext warr, that you need to go with the manuf warr. Third party warranties go bankrupt at the rate of about 12 per year, according to trade journals, from what I have seen.

Also, many third party warrs have so many exclusions, it will make your head spin.

Stick with manufact if you buy one.
