I am looking to replace my stock setup and put on a staggered setup. Do I just have the tire shop transfer the monitor? Is it attached to the valve stem like the ones in my Denali or does BMW have something else?

I believe 04 has indirect monitoring, it means nothing attached.

correct. 04 uses wheel speed to detect flats, like she said, indirect monitoring.

you should be okay with different wheels, just reinitialize the system after installing them.

Yup, I switched my wheels years ago. The pre-facelift cars are a lot less complicated than the facelifts; when the dash light comes on, simply hold down the button until it turns off and you should be fine forever after (unless you get a flat).

Here's what I am contemplating, but I'm afraid the ride might be too harsh. Even with the stock 16's the run flats give it a harsh ride. Is it better with non-run flats?

I guess I don't have permission to post a link so here is the Ebay auction number for the wheels/tires. 220132513642

Well it's going to be give and take. Without the RFTs your ride is going to be nicer; however with 19s it going to be a little rough. Personally I think it will be not as rough as the sotck RFTs.
