I brought the e34 home tonight and I'll put up pics tomorrow. But, the screw that closes the toolkit has snapped. The bottom is stuck in the lid and the kit just hangs. Any ideas on how to get the bottom of the screw out so I can replace it?

Haha, I didn't think anyone else had this problem. To get the piece out of the plastic toolkit, just look at the tool side and you will see a break in the ring that holds the bolt in the plastic toolkit. (if you ever have replaced a door panel clip, it is a similar concept) But basically you have to twist it and tilt it at the same time so it sort of unscrews from its hole. And as far as the broken piece, I am planning on just scraping a line in the broken off piece, and using a flathead screwdriver to unscrew it.

Get a broken screw extractor. Drill the piece that's lodged in the trunklid with the appropriate drill. Mount the extractor to your cordless drill and run the drill in reverse to pull the old piece out.

parts for the tool box don't cost that much...if you need a new screw...it only cost approx $3-$5 dollars from your local BMW dealer: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=HD23&mospid=47408&btnr=71_0018&hg=71&fg=05
