Well, after work i was on my way to go look at a 2002. Ended up getting there and the owner of the buisness (the car is at a wood shop) said, "we dont want to sell it!" and then showed me the door:mad. as i opened the door to my car, i looked to my left and saw a Champagne colored e21 with dirt all over it. I close my door and walk over to it:eyecrazy. there it is, a post 80 320is. recaros, non A/C, BBS wheels, 5-speed, LSD and not one spot of rust. i look at the milage and read 260,XXX. i go to the owner of that buisness and ask if it is a customers or his. He reply its mine and im selling it. It needs a new clutch and thats it. he said i could have it for $800. we then start chatting about life like little women and the guy is like a 50yr version of my self now:confused! he has a whole shop he owns and welcomed me to it anytime! :alright

so the question is, do i buy this 320is and fix it up a little? or should i just pass it to the next e21 gold digger?

One project at a time. It will still be there in 10 years with the same bad clutch. That is, unless you like buying 2 of everything. I'll be here waiting for your thread on how your budget is double what you estimated for your current E21. Just watch...

its really not a project, just a clutch. i dont plan anything serious. It would be a DD then i can sell my e30.

You are starting to sound like Barry.

One car at a time. You have the e30 to dd.

If its clean and you want it for a dd, and can afford to have it and fix it I would go for it.

I'm a sucker... I'd buy it and drive it for a while, if it is just a clutch then sell the e30. If not, throw it on eBay and get your money back, satisfied you've saved another.

Of course I haven't been around long enough to know why this sounds like a bad idea for you specifically.

Having more than 1 E21 is just silly.

LOL

honestly just stick to one project man, the more you accumulate, the more tempted you will be to put money into the other car. That's what happened to my 2002.

Damn, why can't I find gems like that. I saw a rusted out (floorboards were gone but the rest was clean) regular e21 and the guy wanted 1800 and would not come down on price.
I would give the money to somebody to buy it and ship it to NY (J/K) All the parts for my turbo and suspension, plus euro bumpers, alpina diff are waiting for a good body.....

It's a very nice looking car. Personally i'd only buy another E21 if I was replacing an old one though...i.e. upgrade (Alpina/JPS etc :buttrock)

I wouldn't be able to justify spending money on two of the same car at the same time...however if I had space to store it (out of the weather) and the funds behind me then that would definitly influence me differently. :D

meaning your a totally different person then i am. wasnt making any other point.

the guy will accept $100 a week for 8 weeks, i might just do it, fix it up and sell it or drive it for awhile! i just want a e21 to drive while i work on mine...

I'm always up for a quick drive :redspot

If everything else works on the car it seems like a good deal, even if you just fix it and sell it for a profit.

Thats the problem, after fixing it you cant sell it for a profit. But Ricky is young, he has yet to realize what he is getting himself into.

Ha ha. Truth be told I am getting older.....but I still have the same problem when it comes to cars. You can never have enough. But you are right Blitzed...it does take money and lots of it.

I'm with CJ on this one. Even if the car is clean and in good shape ( looks like it) it's been sitting. To make it DD you'd need to replace all the hoses, lines, fluids, possibly some rubber components and more likely clutch/brake hydraulics once you start driving the car. Ask me how I know :)
With the clutch needs replacement you got another project car here. And I've never seen or was able to do what was suggested- fix it and sell it on ebay for profit or w/o loss- doesn't happen unless you got the car free or really cut the corners. You'll double $800 in a matter of days.
I'd leave it alone if you are not interested in another project, even if it's not such a project it will take a lot of time and $$$ to get back on the road.

Just remember, you can never have too many e21's. Also keep telling yourself "its not a collection if you only own one"

There's also something else you need to consider. You might be like me and an addict. I've got 4 cars. It is easier (if you have the room) to just hold on to a car, working or not, than it is to sell it. Esp if the car puts a smile on your face at all. The Jetta still makes me smile when I romp on the gas and hear the intake. The 318 is a blast to toss into turns, great DD, and one of the best e30's I've ever owned and operated daily. The e21 (my second now, was able to somehow sell the first to my ex's dad before she and I broke up) is turbo'd and getting close to done (REALLY!!! ). The M3...well, not going there. I would have loved to have kept my other 2 cars prior to the M3 as well, a '90 325ix 4dr stick and a '97 GTP. And my first e30 too. They ALL made me smile, even when they were costing me money. I would say WALK AWAY before you buy it. It will save you money in the long run since you probably won't end up selling the Vert.

well, went in there today and got all the information on the vehicle, what it exactly needs and started it right up. The clutch is stuck to the flywheel and the e-brake cables are snapped. other then that, it looks really good. he said, its mine for $600. since im paying cash and am intrested he lowered it to that price. So, i have a new bimmer.... clutch, e-brake cables, and the hazard switch (surprise), and I'm pretty much set. Once i get it running for sure, ill post up some pics.

now the question is, where can i get a clutch at a cheap price?
