I have been using the DICE iPod kit in my car for a few months now, and lately every once in awhile I will get a constant hissing noize along with the music. I can't tell if it's the cable, or the DICE unit itself that's producing the sound.... anyone else ever experience this?

Yes that is why i did not buy one for my Z4 i had the factory wire installed. Controlling the Ipod is not as nice with the dice unit but absolutely no hissing noise. I had one in my Z3 and hated the High Pitch noise that is why i opted for the factory ipod wiring. If i remeber correctly there is a setting on the dice unit that you can set thru the radio which changes the volume out put form the unit the lower you go the less noise you hear but then you lose volume from your radio. I do miss seeing the track names on my radio but not sure i miss it enough to put up with the noise form the dice unit.

Mine was a loose connection... Problem is it comes back over and over so I believe it's the contact inside the unit that is loose...

Yea it must just be a loose connection. I wiggled it a little bit and it went away.

All these bad things happening to people with Z4's and Dice units in all these different threads has made me decide never to get a Dice unit. I'll stick with the BMW aux input.

No problem with my unit. I'd the wiring harness and the DSP cable insulated. I also used double-side adhesive to keep the unit from moving around

Mine started the hissing a few weeks ago and seems to be getting worse... Is it just a loose connection? I'm in no mood to rip all the trunk carpet out again to push on the wires if it's going to come back again...

For those of you that have the bmw ipod setup, is the ipod unlocked while its docked to the car? Can you scroll through the ipod menus and start playing a song directly from the ipod? I think I may replace my dice for a bmw system, but i would like to know the drawbacks of the bmw system verse the dice...
thanks

When the Ipod is docked it kinda freezes and just says BMW on it and is not workable by itself. All you can do is work it through the steering wheel, but it would be hard to reach anyway over in your glove compartment while you were driving. If you download using a high quality bitrate (like Apple Lossles audio) with your Ipod you can easily get CD quality with no background noise. You do not get any names or titles on the radio, all you get is 1 of 5 channels kinda like a CD changer which you configure through Itunes. You have to manage your playlist smartly to get what you want out of it. For example 1 of my playlists is all the songs on my Ipod, 80 gigs worth. Holding the steering wheel button down for like 10 min. gets you through 1/2 of them, not really fun. So every weekend when I drive it I customize one of the BMW playlists for the music I want to hear and limit it to maybe 100 songs or so for each playlist and it works great. If I had to pick the 6 CD changer or the BMW Ipod I would easily pick the Ipod for it's extra flexibility and being able to customize the playlists.
