Have a 95 540i/ 6-speed. On an earlier post, I got a reference towards Royal Purple "Synchromax" for the Trans. The tranny label is red - ATF spec. I understand this is Dexron III. I want to run a synthetic, and am having trouble finding Mobil 1 Dexron type fluid locally.

Wanted to hear your opinions about the RP Synchromax - pros or cons before buying.

Thanks -

If you can get a Royal Purple Oil that is compatible to your need. I would use that over Mobil1 any day of the week..

Royal Purple is much harder to find than mobil1. I only know a certain pepboys and Kragen that carries it. Not all Pepboys or Kragen will have them.

All my buddies now use royal purple brand oils and they are so happy with it.

You need to run the Max ATF, not the Synchromax. The Synchromax is for manual trannys that use ATF.

I'm running RP in trans and diff with good results.
