View Full Version : Need Light!!!
landcruisermike 07-16-2007, 12:53 PM My '97 540i has an annoying headlight issue; the low beams are too low. I have raised the lights as much as the adjusters will allow, but they seem only to light up enough roadway to comfortably travel at no more than 40 mph if the road is flat. I've heard the costs associated with the Angel Eyes stuff, and I can't justify that. What else is there? Thanks in advance.
FP5241 07-16-2007, 12:54 PM What kind do you have now?
brandon5069 07-16-2007, 01:01 PM Sounds like your adjusters are broken....
It's time to either take your headlights apart and fix the adjusters or buy some new headlights...

xbmx89 07-16-2007, 01:41 PM I just bought xenon p39s today:)
brandon5069 07-16-2007, 01:58 PM Halogen P39's aren't the worst thing in the world, Mike :). My budget wouldn't allow me to buy the HELLA's that I wanted so I bought the next best thing. I bought my P39's from www.umnitza.com. I chose not to buy them with the xenon option, at first, because, again, my budget would not allow it. The good news was light output was equal to if not better than the factory pre 01 HELLA's, and the angel eyes look fantastic :buttrock. I saved some pennies and was able to purchase the HID's a little later. I couldn't be happier with my choice :)
xbmx89 07-16-2007, 02:02 PM ^^ yep p39 all the way man you will be happy!!! Im so excited to get my weds!!!!:buttrock
kbuicker 07-16-2007, 03:04 PM Zip ties do a wonderful job at raising the lights.. my xenons still adjust when I start the car.. but now I can see at night!
landcruisermike 07-17-2007, 11:33 AM What kind do you have now?
Stock. The adjusters are not broken, they just don't go high enough.

Don't go high enough would mean broken....wouldn't it????
e39dream 07-17-2007, 11:48 AM I'd venture to say that you have a broken adjuster or two as well. Sometimes it will still "adjust" but the part is snapped in half, leaving the light refelctor to bounce around and fall right back towards the street.
I have had my hands on at least 5 pairs of the oem hella non xenon 97-2000 e39 lights with the amber turn signals. Every single assembly except for one passenger side light had at least one broken adjuster.
landcruisermike 07-18-2007, 12:26 PM My adjusters went up and stayed up but didn't go high enough. Time to didassemble and "Americanize" it with some shims or some such thing.
chiefwej 07-18-2007, 12:48 PM You can just wire tie them w/o disassembly. If you are pulling the apart you might as well replace the adjusters.
thbmwm3 07-18-2007, 03:51 PM p39s are great! They are $275 here:

xbmx89 07-18-2007, 04:00 PM ^^^ dang thats so cheap!!
thbmwm3 07-18-2007, 04:19 PM Yeah, I was surprised myself. DDM HIDs (slim, lightweight, great output) with lifetime warranty for $150, and other DEPO lighting products for very low prices. It's great to see pricing coming down on all of these.
xbmx89 07-18-2007, 04:24 PM ha i just bought mine for 699
Orxan4ik 07-18-2007, 04:51 PM http://www.ddmtuning.com/headlights.html
WOW, I almost bought umnitza P39s myself . Ive built P39s on that website, including lifetime warranty on HIDs and chrome turn bulbs and the total came to $565 with shipping. Umnitza wants $775 shipped, HA :confused. I already do regret buying my DEPO taillights from them, not that they arent nice lookin or the service sucked, it's just I found much better deals after I stopped following everyones advice at buying from Umnitza. Like I said, they have great product, but they are WAY overpriced. So guess what, I'ma buy from these guys and from now on I'll be posting this link in every headlight tread. I think its time Umnitza reconsiders their prices, otherwise it aint gonna be long before they're gonna be out of bussiness.

d00d, I feel ur agrivation. I bought their taillights for total of $180, when they are $90 shipped on eBay. But, I sucked it up, should've known better. Now however, I'm glad I didn't buy their P39s, and here's why. Their P39 with halogens, looked like a good deal (before I've seen this site), since depos+ccfls cant be much cheaper. But Ive always hated their $250 HID upgrade option, it's 2007 damn it, ebay's full of $100 kits with 5 year warranty. I've bought like at least 6 sets from eBay within last 2 years, they all work fine. And that's where I like this dmmtuning website, not only their DEPOs are ridicilously cheap for the retail buyers, but their upgrades actually do make sense ($100 for CCFLs, $150 for HIDs with lifetime warranty). I dont mind paying much at all for the stuff that worth it, but I hate marked up stuff, especially when 2-3 retailers hold the monopoly, so price stays high. eFFF that!!!

xbmx89 07-18-2007, 05:22 PM Already done lol We have no clue on the quality of these depos and there hid system and Umnitza has always covered our ass's when we need them to and they always stand by their product and the quality of i. lol matt did hook me up with some free stuff as well:)
umnitza 07-18-2007, 05:22 PM We take care of our customers.
We always have.
We offer the best value we can for the customer. Many vendors pop up every day and we have offered free shipping, free bulbs, free wiring harness, and of course, our skills at building these lights.
I can't and won't drop my price to compete with anyone and everyone on the internet because I know that while I'm here every day for a long time, we've seen lots of vendors pop up, for glory, for fame, for whatever, and burn out and fizzle.
I can offer better prices on the phone to make you feel better about buying from the lighting leader, but I will not go into the mud with anyone and everyone that works out of their home, out of some third world country that doesn't pay taxes or hire good workers.

yaay be the first to test them so we know if there are other worthy vendors to supply us. The cost should be bout *540 for you IF it includes everything you need for simple plug and play such as bulbs, harness and wiring. I'd also like that company to put up some pics of the lighting of their HID lkit installed on the set and Angel Eyes like Umnitza has already done. :)
brandon5069 07-18-2007, 05:28 PM Matt, you're a cool guy :buttrock

I will call Umnitza at first, and if their price isn't gonna be reasonable they I might as well buy from those folks. After all, PayPal's got ur back on the funding side, so if they are fake, I can always get my dough from PayPal. With that said, I'll mention for the third time, I didnt mean to offend Umnitza and if I did im sorry :redspot

Dont have my old ones remember :D
thbmwm3 07-18-2007, 08:09 PM It looks like DDM (the company selling these p39s on the website posted) is selling DEPO p39s, so they should be the same as all other p39s. In fact, I was browsing through the Group Buy forums and they are a sponsor of these forums as well. The sponsor is from the early days of these forums, and they are doing very well. They also have lots of customers (and vendors like understeer.com). Here are some of their GBs:

well, I'll get you the new ones, the meantime, it's an 1156 bulb that you'll need - but it might depend on how late/early your car's year is - look at the connector - if it's a slot, it's going to be a 7440/3157 - if it's a hole, look for how many contacts there are - 2 = 1157 1 = 1156
iamvietness 07-18-2007, 08:15 PM if you had the funds i'd say go ahead and get new hellas but if not then p39's are the next best option
