FYI

I know a lot of you are planning or seems to be planning to attend the SCCA Test N Tune at the Aloha Stadium on 7/21 along with some photo opps.

However, if you plan on running your car please click on the link and read.
You will need to pre-register as walk on registrations will not be accepted.

http://sccahawaii.org/TestNTune.html

If not, you will only be able to watch.
I just got off the phone with Amy, and she mentioned that your check will need to arrive to her no later than Wednesday the 18th.

BTW - The Mini Club has already registered!

Have fun, and play safe!

I gotta get back to work right after.

So much for a good weather photoshoot.

everything I have planned (i.e pretty much already have, just need to install) is a combination of everything you and bill have done to your cars...

SM is the Street Modified class and allows unrestricted mods to engine, drivetrain and suspension...

locally, there's only one really fast top 10 driver in SM...Brad Lau in his Mini Cooper S...BSP is a much more competitive class...

if you're a competitive person like I am and like to get a class win once in awhile, running in BSP will be a disappointment...you may finish in the top 10, but you'll not be a class winner in BSP...

that said, SM will allow more mods and the competition for the class win will be less fierce than in BSP...

poser

ditto...you CAN place podium in BSP (i woulda had a *few* 2nd/3rd plce finishes when comparing my times (again, B-stock vs. BSP), but NEVER a 1st place...jen also has become a better driver than what she was before, so it makes it that much more fierce...

curtis lee is an awesome driver, and he's well in tune with his car...

common misconception most idiots make is that because they have this mod, and that mod, and the "better" car, is that they'll beat the guy with less mods and the "inferior" car...

the driver is the number 1 factor in winning...and it's a factor most people ignore, cause they cant believe there's a driver out there who's better than they are...

I wasn't worrying about being competitive my first time out.
I was more worrying about being put in a class too high that doesn't really "suit" my beginner class.

And as for the BBK... would that really bump me up a class? I mean... isn't my BBK more of a disadvantage than an advantage since I'm running the 15" over the 14" and it's the 8 piston setup?

H-J,

Don't worry about the class your car will run in for this event...like I mentioned earlier, you won't be running in a class...it's for fun and learning, just get in line and run...

If and when you do an Autox, then you will have to run in the class that your car fits in, there's no novice class..

Even when we're competing, it's all about learning to become a better driver and learning your car's capabilities...and most importantly having FUN...

Lastly, bring a set of "rains" if you have them, in case it's wet...:D

15.6 BRAKES
Vehicles may only exceed the allowances of 13.6 as specified herein.
A. Any brake line, single or dual master cylinder, vacuum brake
booster, or brake proportioning valves may be used. This does not
allow multiple separate cylinders, but does allow for any single,
dual-circuit cylinder. “Safety brakers” and units such as the
“Brake Guard System” are permitted. ABS braking systems may
be disabled, but not removed; brake boosters may be removed or
added. Air ducts may be fitted to the brakes, provided that they
extend in a forward direction only, and that no changes are made
in the body/structure for their use. They may serve no other
purpose. Backing plates and dirt shields may be modified or
removed.
B. Cross-drilled and/or slotted brake rotors may be used, provided
the replacement rotors have the same dimensions as standard
rotors and are of a standard-type construction and of ferrous
metallic material. This does not permit the use of a two-piece
hat/rotor assembly unless the standard configuration is two-piece.

LOL! The link for this thread has been cross-posted over on the Miata club site.

For the novices going to test-and-tune, look at it as an opportunity to get to learn how to better control you car. BMWs are amazing vehicles and in the right hands perform beautifully (the VanNs have proven that). Go out there and have fun, introduce yourselves to the other car groups. We are a friendly bunch and are always glad to see new faces.

The same goes for anyone new to autox who will be competing on sunday. Remember, we were all novices at one time.

That's the thing about autocross, it does not matter if your modifications help or not. Technically, you cannot change the shift knob in stock class. It would make for a weenie protest, but rules are rules.

yess! hita s many as you like, the marks come off real easy and its fun to watch corner workers, timing people, etc etc scurry like cockroaches *jk*

hey Woody that means "I'm not a cone killer I'n mot a cone killer"

as for GVO/KVO driving advice the last time I tried that I left out the feel for the car part and ended up backing myself into the bushes at HRP, maybe we need to try Curtis's method "must drive faster"

the accent is not for entertainment purposes- it's used to slow down the faster drivers...

I'm worried about safety at the Test and Tune. I heard that a black car almost ran over a couple of people at a past event.

Is this a common occurrence? I also hear that this driver still participates regularly. Will they have proper barricades up while the black car is running?

Oh my God... I just got home right now..
Let me tell you... IT WAS A BLAST!
I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT (except for the part where I got sunburned on the face again)!
I have never ever taken the M3 to such limits before... ever! And it's great to find out how your car reacts to certain conditions and to find its limitations.
Surprisingly, the M3 was very simple to handle than I expected.
I had traction control off the whole time (except for the first run where I forgot to turn it off... also turned out to be my slowest run).
I also learned a whole lot about myself as a driver.
After going through it the first time, your brain picks it up pretty quick... like... ohhh... you don't need to brake at this area or... ohh... you gotta brake longer through this hairpin... And when you try it slightly different the next time, if it works, you better yourself as a driver or if it doesn't work... you know that for future reference.
Even as a corner worker... just watching these guys run through... you can see where the good guys take the turns when... when the brake lights come on... times when you hear the exhaust... You learn a lot by watching too.

What I was really worried about going into this the first time was my car getting bashed up. Turns out, I didn't hit a single cone all day. lol.
But for those that did hit a cone, I didn't see any damage on those cars. Shouldn't be a problem. Once I went through it like 2 or 3 times, I realized, this is pretty safe.

I encourage anyone to come out and try it if you can. Or at least come out to watch others do it... Maybe that'll create some desire to actually try it??? Even just talking to some of the people in the event or possibly getting a ride around the course... You'll have lots of fun.
Now it's back to my tiresome exhausting work schedule.... Laters!
Thanks Jayson, Mike, Ken for teaching me so much.
Thanks Reid for that awesome ride where Amy scolded you. lol :stickoutt

gary... if your not driving the car with the lights on, can you have the lights on the car with it not in motion.. like showing it off at a parking lot get together or something....

when I had them on my last car, we were never able to have them turned on while we were driving... but we were allowed to have them on, if the car was parked somewhere...

but according to you, even with flashing blue alarm lights, with the car PARKED, your saying we can get a ticket?!?!?!?!

Woody,

You even got into Jeff's engine compartment . One Woody horsepower.

What is your time schedule, If I get back into my routine it is lifting 5 days a week but no more than 1 hour as I push the envelope with very little rest time. My previous training partners World Class Benchpresser and Mr. Hawaiian Islands and every other contest would challenge each other to see who would barf first. We actually would drag a rubbish can around to barf in. But no I can be kind to you. Actually with your size you can hold a lot of mass. WOODY CAN BE VERY BIG :eyecrazy:eyecrazy:eyecrazy. Wish I had your height then I could have weighed around 300 lbs.

Woody, you could pass as my brother so I can get you into Pearl City Police Station weight room, just mostly free weights but I was able to build myself up. Let me know as you live in HK and I am in Mililani. I can always meet you right after work, I get through most of the time at around 3-4 pm depends what time I get in.

Everyone is different and your wants would be different from mine, I tailor things to match you not me.

Cal,

Sorry didn't answer your question. Blue lights illuminated doesn't have to be flashing and the car does not have to be moving, just on a public roadway to constitute a violation. I had my officers cite all parked cars on public roadways for flashing blue alarm lights. Damn if you wanted blue lights join the police department and make a difference,

I feel the same way which is why I don't order crab when I go out to dinner, like working for your food. Then we can pick-up Zip Packs they should keep just need the sodas and waters and we can do lunch at a park.

I think we may need another cooler, as mine is not so big, us small guys need small things so we can carry them around. Does a Cayman have a trunk :lol.

Humm she is single :evil2 with a P-car, yummy. She may have to ride in my car to show my how she handles the stick. :devillook

Gotta figure out how everyone wants to do it as far as picking up the lunches.

Unless everyone wants to meet at the Zippys in Mililani Town Center that way everyone can order their own type of lunch.

Best place to park is on the side of Long John Silver and the Tesoro station.
And with that time might be better to start at 0830 so we can hit the road about 9 or little after.
