Hi there,

My 2001 320i idles roughly when it is stopped at traffic lights/intersections or just crawling slowly in traffic. If I shift it into neutral the problem stops right away. Someone told me I should check the idle control valve as it may need cleaning.

How easy/hard is this procedure to do? And is it most likely the solution to the problem?

When I was researching this procedure a while ago, I was able to find just about everything I needed to know by using the search function here and reading a bunch of past posts. If you've already done some searches with "ICV" and "Idle control valve" then you're well on your way to answering your question...
