View Full Version : Got a ticket on 121 and Coit northbound. need help w/ what to do!
Buyse13 07-10-2007, 02:39 PM So last night around 11ish pm I got a speeding ticket with some of my friends in the car on our way to IHOP. I was cruising around 90ish on the highway that was completely open, not a car in sight! I mean absolutely nothing. As we are driving by a cement mixing plant I see an odd reflection from behind a sign and I immediately hit the brakes hard because I knew it was a cop. My Passport X50 never beeped at me anything So I was thinking I got really luckily. I go by the cop at 65. He then pulls out and is just on my ass and then flips his lights on right when there was an opportunity for a side street.
He pulls me over tells me he tagged me with LASER at 89 mph in a 60 zone. At that point I knew I was screwed. I tried to reason with him and he wouldn't budge.
Should I fight this ticket or not? I just recently finished a differed period and defensive driving for my last ticket not but two months ago. I have no options to get this ticket off my record other than fighting it.
One thing I did notice was the officer was inside of his car. And to my knowledge don't Laser guns have to be operated from outside of the vehicle? Another thing was he was hiding behind a huge sign with his lights off in the complete dark. Could this be entrapment if that law exist?
Please help!
russiamutha 07-10-2007, 02:44 PM did you go to the meet last night?
540i6sport 07-10-2007, 02:50 PM Good luck trying to get out of this one. I think your best bet is just to appear in court and put forth your guilty plea asking for some leniency or supervision (if they still do that).
Entrapment?....NFW. If you were leaving a bar and he was waiting for you in the parking lot you may have something.
Either way, hope it works out for the best and slow down.
weaksauce 07-10-2007, 02:51 PM your f-ed
lawyer up and fight it. worst case you'll get differed, and pay a fine.

bimmerd00d 07-10-2007, 02:57 PM I drive past twice a day, he's there nearly every morning. Always parked there with the laser gun mounted to his side mirror facing backwards. i doubt you'll get outta this one. My V1 goes apeshit every morning near him.

Seems odd that your X50 didn't go off. Also,
When the MPH radar is placed into POP mode, the radar emits a short burst of energy and quickly measures the vehicle's speed. The radar then goes immediately into standby and displays the obtained speed for a couple of seconds. The entire measurement happens so quickly that the no radar detector in 1999 could detect it with any accuracy.
However, it is recommended that any police officer using POP radar only use it to obtain an estimate of a vehicles speed, then switch to normal mode to obtain the exact speed. The reason for this is POP radar is not 100% accurate and therefore police should not be able to write you a ticket based solely on a POP radar reading. Because of this we believe POP radar is not something you should worry about and POP radar detection is not something you should look for in a radar detector. In fact, most radar detectors that detect POP radar have the POP radar detection turned off by default as it just increased the false alerts you can receive with any radar detector.
MKIV1.8T 07-10-2007, 03:00 PM With how cheap traffic lawyers are these days, its worth just fighting them. Its almost a for sure way to keep it off of your record. But if you did deferred and are on probation right now, youre pretty much screweddddd. I would have asked to see the radar and the speed. But Id say hes probablly not lying if you said you were doing about 90 and he clocked you at 89.
Buyse13 07-10-2007, 03:01 PM ouch. that sucks.

Thats the best thing that you can do in your case, my dad had gotten a really bad ticket got a lawyer fought it and only had to pay a fine.

iv already finished my probational period. It was a Plano cop too. On 121 he claimed that that stretch is Plano until you get off of to the right of 121 is it Frisco. If that is true, then he was sitting in Frisco because he was off of the high was in the grass on the right side. So he was "out of his jurisdiction"?
Buyse13 07-10-2007, 03:25 PM anybody know of any lawyers? or any of you guys actually lawyers?
Buyse13 07-10-2007, 03:34 PM I was referred to Conrad Scott. He is a traffic attorney. And I need to deliver $75 to him and he will be appearing on my behalf, and I will not have to do anything, not even show up.
What do you guys think?
loonibab///M3 07-10-2007, 03:45 PM 75 is freaking cheap, non the less he is still a lawer, doo it!

MKIV1.8T 07-10-2007, 05:20 PM I've had 7 tickets :-(
$75 is a good rate. I think I paid $70. I think around there is the competitive rate for a traffic lawyer these days.
Iron Chef 07-10-2007, 05:52 PM You should have asked to see the reading on his gun.
You should have asked to see the reading on his gun.
At least in AL/GA they don't have to show you.
$75 is super cheap for a traffic lawyer too. Going rate was 2-4x that in Atlanta.
Buyse13 07-10-2007, 06:43 PM Anyone know where I can find the rules of "jurisdiction"
Soup Nazi 07-10-2007, 06:46 PM I just got a 101mph ticket yesterday. I was going 90mph.
The guy was being a jerk, so I didn't even argue.

o dont get me wrong i had community service along with court fees and bullshit. it came down to like $140 in fees, 55 hours of community service, 3 page essay as to why speeding is bad, DSC, and 3 jury duties.
i did all but 1, guess you cant guess which one ;)
EFIL4ZAGGIN 07-11-2007, 01:09 AM Im not a lawyer but my dad is and I let him read this thread, with that being said his opinion was..... the cop has to be able to testify in court without a shadow of doubt that thats how fast he clocked you. It is entrapment if they dont have any lights on and are hiding he says you should fight.... just an opinion take it or leave it....

iamvietness 07-11-2007, 01:36 AM yeah odds are that you aren't going to get out of this one especially with a ticket not more than 2-3 months ago. sorry bro.
Nick6 07-13-2007, 11:24 PM damn. teen court got my 3rd ticket turned into 50 hours of community service plus 120 dollars in fines.
What is teen court?
Buyse13 07-14-2007, 12:17 AM What is teen court?
greatest thing ever! honestly!
cowboys9 07-14-2007, 09:57 AM Wow I've never seen a cop on 121. I normally will go eastbound, grass is tall enough to prevent cops from seeing you from the other side of the median, and theres only one hiding spot. Routinely pass 100 on there, as it is empty at night.
I think you are just on the border of Plano and Frisco, the four corners (cities) is at custer. Plano is SW, Frisco is NW, McKinney is NE, and Allen is SE.
