Does anyone know why there aren't any more GGC (golden gate chapter) autocrosses?

They're having problems finding organizers for the autocross program. If you're interested in stepping up to help run the program, let me know and I can put you in touch with the appropriate people.

What's involved in organizing and running these events?

Here's a snippet from an email I received:

---------------------------------------
There are several areas where assistance is needed:

1. Site coordinator - someone to make contact with site managers, find out what hoops need to be jumped through, and then get the club jumping through them. I have a list of potential sites (won't waste space here).

2. Admin work - someone to order the insurance, pay the rental fees, sign the use permits/contracts, order lunches, and probably much more.

3. Registration - while probably 75% of registration happens through the GGC web site, someone needs to assign run groups and work assignments prior to the event.

4. Truck/trailer duty - getting the truck and trailer from storage in Richmond, driving to the event, arriving early, and parking the trailer in the right spot. After the event, reverse the procedure. Fortunately, a 3 series car fits inside the trailer so that you can have your car there too. This is a physical task and requires that you demonstrate for the club's Driving Events Coordinator that you can handle it properly.
