View Full Version : Anyone experience this with their ventilation?
I have the AC going on but sometimes the system will "pause" like turn down the fan like I am turning it off, then come back on, a little less colder. Having it on "Max" is no issue.
I thought that I read here or on E90 post that it was some function to prevent overheating on hot days.
I have a 2007 E92 335i/May build if that matters.
mryakan 07-09-2007, 06:40 PM I noticed it does that when you press the recirculate button, but only very briefly. It could be just my imagination too.

Yeah, it does that too (as it does on my E36).
Beer Goggles 07-09-2007, 07:30 PM Is it when you're hard on the gas. Most cars shut down the system at a certain throttle percentage so you have maximum passing power. Mine works fine, although I've never had luck with "auto" settings as the sensor can be dirty or get false readings and do something it shouldn't.
Set your temp and set your own fan setting....never have problems. Max is just full AC so it's not reading of it's temp sensors.
I've heard that the system goes into auto-recirc when it detects high carbon monoxide levels and other pollutants outside the car... saves you from breathing fumes in gridlock. Could be related...
On another note, every car I've owned develops a rather stinky AC when it first kicks on during the summer. I understand why this is but wondered if it's the same with the 335i.
rogert 07-10-2007, 10:49 AM I had the same thing happen to me when I owned a 2004 530i. Traveling on the intersate and all of a sudden the car started to get warm. Felt the A/C and not much air was blowing out of the vents. Took it to the dearlership the next day and as usual the car blew cold air. The SA looked at me like I was some dumb ass who didn't know how to operate the A/C unit. He went through the whole procedure with me on how to operate the system. Wouldn't you know it happened again two weeks later. From that point on I justed lived with the situation.

The mold you smell is because most people keep their AC on the wrong setting. The system needs to breath with fresh air. Keeping it on recirc allows condensation, and mold...which equals morning breath for your car.
Also detecting CO? So to compensate for high CO outside the car it makes you stick with stale CO rich air IN the car? If anything it would probably detect particulate matter and close off when it's dusty.

My 2007 335xi does the same thing. My 2003 325xi did not do this.
solospeed 07-10-2007, 12:54 PM sounds like the resistor

What I'm getting at is the climate control systems. You shouldn't have to worry about what setting it's on. You'd think manufactures could tune them to keep the AC clean, I'm asking if that's the case in this model.
If the inside of your vehicle is rich in CO you're in trouble. Your own vehicle should not leak CO into your cabin.

Sorry forgot to add an O, CO2, both can kill you.

Anything can kill you. If you're talking about breathing in a sealed cabin, you'll metabolize all of the oxygen and suffocate before your expelled carbon dioxide gets to you. Carbon dioxide is safe in air up to 5,000 parts per million. 5,000 ppm of carbon monoxide would cause severe headache/nausea in 5 minutes and kill you in 25 minutes or less, 10,000ppm would kill you in 2-3 minutes.

This is NOT normal. I took mine in and had it repaired. It has to do with the resistance points in the fan motor. Ill get the part# and post it. No problems as described since the repair!
harryu 07-10-2007, 08:09 PM my e46 did not do it. I figured it was normal. Guess I'll wait for it to get worse cause it's such a minimal pause.

Awesome, thank you.
Actually I was able to re-create it time after time this afternoon, under a specific condition-if I changed the temp from 70 to 75 (outside temp was about 85).
But this has happened before without me touching the temp.
But this has happened before without me touching the temp.Maybe the temp itself changed?

Jed, its the BLOWER RESISTOR that is defective. It sounds to me like a simple electrical principle. Resistance is need to complete a circuit and when its not "putting out'"as it should, one gets an intermittent failure. This should be enough for your dealer. If not, let me know and Ill track down a part#.
