View Full Version : Just picked up a 320i LSD.......
socalsean 07-09-2007, 04:22 PM Scored it for less than $50 at the Pick Your Part.:D
I see that I will need the output flanges re-drilled and some spacers to install this in my '76 2002. Ireland and Aardvarc both sell the parts needed (Aardvarc being about $50 cheaper). Is there a reason to buy the parts from Ireland instead of Aardvarc? I have no experience with these parts, nor these companies, aside from the seat webbing I purchased from Aardvarc. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

gwb72tii 07-09-2007, 04:28 PM both are good companies to deal with, and 2002 enthusiasts
you're doing a good thing directing business to either

Both are good people as far as I know. Just go with who ever is closer to you I guess?
Where is that salvage yard if I may ask?
Thanks

Both shops are within an hour or so of me. I live in Costa Mesa and the yard was in Stanton off of Beach St (near Knotts Berry Farm). Where do you live?
Is there anyone who has these parts, from either vendor, installed on their car?

MattP2002 07-09-2007, 08:20 PM I've got the ones from Aardvarc, they're nicely made and anodized black. You can see them between the differential flange and the CV joint in this picture (http://www.breakerbar.com/2002forsale/01_main/49_left_axle.jpg).
blunt1 07-09-2007, 10:22 PM IVE GOT 2 SETS OF AARDVARK SPACERS AND FLANGES. order from dave at arrdvark. youll get the right part fast and it will be complete
turb02 07-10-2007, 09:10 AM I have dealt with IE and have had good experiences with them, however since it is summer and they race, it might be hard to get in touch with them for a timely response. Either one should be fine though.
visionaut 07-10-2007, 05:51 PM Since you've got a '76 2002, you're lucky - you don't need to redrill flanges or buy spacers. Just swap your 76 non-LSD Diff output flanges into the 320is LSD diff and install!

kpolito99 07-14-2007, 09:09 AM I would not bother to redrill the flanges. It is better to simply install the larger inboard CV joint that matches the diff output flange.
If I am not mistaken I had to machine a little clearance on the shoulder of the 2002 halfshaft to enable enough penetration to install the c-clip.
I still needed to install the IE spacers with my setup.

I'd rather use the larger (if necessary) CV joints but I heard that they are really expensive. No one seems to have any used ones either. How much did you pay for your CVs?
Since there seems to be conflicting info on this subject I guess I'll have to rip it apart, measure, and compare. I'll post pictures for anyone who's interested.

Don't recall how long ago I purchased mine. I would think you could just pick up a junk yard set from an old e21 or e30?
