Does the navigation system in the 335i have an NTSC video input? I am looking into an aftermarket backup camera to install in the 335i.

I don't think so.. yet. I know there are aftermarket kits for TV on some of the older BMW idrive units.

I'm not too sure either, but... (and nothing is ever this simple), The Navi system on the new E70 X5 has a camera available. (There is also a BMW -backup camera for the Navi-equipped E83 X3's out there.) It would almost seem that you could add the backup camera from the E70 X5 and it should plug into the back of the Navi unit on your 335i. I think the system is the same... well, do you have the 6 touch sensitive buttons below the CD slot? If so, you might have a chance. I'd ask the service department at your dealership. Then price out all the things you would need if you were adding it to an existing X5.

I hope what I said makes sense and I hope it's accurate.

that makes sense, Zimmy. I know all 3 series after March are supposed to have the six favorites buttons, at least that's what I was told.

but in the german BMW upgrade catalogue there is a kit to install a TV receiver that is controlled through I-Drive. My guess is that it either has a digital or PAL(16) connection. Given that, I'm sure that it would not be too difficult for someone to build a smart-adaptor to allow for the conversion of the signel and to interface with the I-Drive.

The catalogue also has the backup camera kit. This does not interface with the screen but includes another screen that mounts over/in the airvent just left of the hazard/DTC buttons. Looks like a hack if you ask me.

I need to get that catalogue scanned and posted...

So sad, the lowly lexus IS have a backup cam directly viewable from the NAV...

Do you have a blocked rear windshield? I loaded my car up but couldn't justify the backup sensors on the 335i. Unless you're in an SUV I don't see the point... you've got a rearview mirror and visibility is pretty good. or do you just want to check out the people in the car behind you? ;-)

The reason i want a backup cam....i find the back of the 335i to be very high, it is big blind spot, 2 times i bumped into the car behind me because i could not properly judge the distance.

I have found a wireless backup cam option that has a small screen that can attached to the visor, i think i will just go that route. this option is less than $100, the PDC add on is like $300...

I remember as a child riding with my grandma in her car. It was a friggin huge car, rwd with no traction control and the "nav" was a compass stuck to the windshield. I'm pretty sure she didn't have to drive by feel and she got by without cameras. How did she ever do it?

Grandpa taught her well. Which brings me back to these two earlier posts:
