View Full Version : Does Fox have the F1 race again TAMUmpower 07-08-2007, 02:14 AM yea, apparently the fox schedule doesnt exist in my world. cant seem to find it. Im guessing its not showing live. What time is fox showing it....o yea, and make sure its the right time zone CaracasE30 07-08-2007, 02:46 AM all i can say is 1pm eastern...no idea what mountain time or pacific time or whatever that may be. TAMUmpower 07-08-2007, 03:01 AM thanks m3fuz 07-08-2007, 10:01 AM Yep, 1PM EST. It really throws off my weekend though, because I loved waking up on Sunday mornings, making breakfast, and watching a nice race. Now I have to dodge ESPN and other websites to make sure I don't see the results. Ianbiz 07-08-2007, 02:55 PM It is the last race on fox. I will miss HD but I wont miss having to ruin my sunday. digitaldragon03 07-08-2007, 06:22 PM 10am for us West Coast people was awesome. Waking up at 4am, or staying up, was a real drag. LJSE34 07-09-2007, 12:47 PM 2pm over here. Local fox is busy with baseball, which is why the US gp wasn't broad casted live here, still makes my blood boil. At least they were kind enough not to bring that troll Derek Daly back after the US gp. JuliusPleaser 07-09-2007, 12:55 PM SPEED will have the British GP on at 12:30 pm Eastern, 11:30 am Central on Wednesday. BTW, this is the last F1 race of the season that FOX will air. Thank god. Now I can watch again. digitaldragon03 07-09-2007, 09:16 PM You dont get Fox? JuliusPleaser 07-09-2007, 09:43 PM FOX is a thinly disguised White House PR firm, and I don't care for right wing propoganda. Plus, they always place banners over the standings, and run 4,327 screen-bottom promos every hour. digitaldragon03 07-09-2007, 10:35 PM The boradcasts were exactly like the Speed broadcasts, with the FIA screen graphics. The only difference was that it was in wide screen on Fox. JuliusPleaser 07-10-2007, 12:00 AM You didn't watch it on my local FOX affiliate. ;) Feuerräder 07-10-2007, 02:02 AM You didn't watch it on my local FOX affiliate. ;) +1 I'll miss the higher quality picture, but the lack of half my screen being blocked by something about baseball or bart simpson's head randomly popping out of the corner will make up for some of that... VeNo///M 07-10-2007, 02:56 AM 10am for us West Coast people was awesome. Waking up at 4am, or staying up, was a real drag. Yea it wasn't bad, but honestly I like seeing it live better. It's kinda cool knowing that at that very time, there's people going balls out in an F1 car, while your sitting on your ass having a pizza pocket. Stealthauto 07-10-2007, 01:04 PM yes something special about seeing it live.......glad were done with this fox business........ dcvee 07-10-2007, 01:26 PM FOX is a thinly disguised White House PR firm, and I don't care for right wing propoganda. Wait....maybe CNN will start carrying F1. Then you can watch and get your daily dose of left-wing propaganda. M3Alpine99 07-10-2007, 01:52 PM It is the last race on fox. I will miss HD but I wont miss having to ruin my sunday. Was it really in HD? I recorded the first two in HD and had to watch in some compressed format in with large black lines on both sides... I watched on the standard channel so it was full widescreen on the standard channel for the last two. Iron Chef 07-10-2007, 02:33 PM At least they were kind enough not to bring that troll Derek Daly back after the US gp. My god that guy is a tool. Can't stand him. I'd rather wake up 6am to watch it live anyway. ctsiegf 07-10-2007, 02:55 PM Was it really in HD? I recorded the first two in HD and had to watch in some compressed format in with large black lines on both sides... I watched on the standard channel so it was full widescreen on the standard channel for the last two. Starting with the USGP, it was upconverted widescreen SD. Fox does it on some of their non-HD Saturday baseball games (a coincidence that it is the same channel since FOM is really in control of the F1 broadcast). It still can look almost as good as HD and I'll miss it as it was better than 4:3 SD on speed. -Carter murdoc158 07-10-2007, 03:09 PM Was it really in HD? I recorded the first two in HD and had to watch in some compressed format in with large black lines on both sides... I watched on the standard channel so it was full widescreen on the standard channel for the last two. It was broadcast in "Fox Widescreen" which means 16:9 format and a 480p picture quality. It's not "high-definition" which would be 720p or 1080i and 16:9 format. 480p is the same quality as a progressive scan DVD player. It wasn't the greatest, but things looked 10x sharper than the crappy Speed broadcast. JuliusPleaser 07-10-2007, 05:22 PM Well what will you do now? Fox owns Speed. I guess your screwed. Wait....maybe CNN will start carrying F1. Then you can watch and get your daily dose of left-wing propaganda. What do I know? I know that FOX has ruined what used to be a terrific television channel, but at least they haven't started with the incessant self-promos and screen-covering banners that you'll find with the regular FOX channel. I prefer my motor racing straight up - without any political BS attached. BraveUlysses 07-10-2007, 08:11 PM What do I know? Like when an HD show goes on commercial... jar_e_d is 07-10-2007, 10:44 PM Bernie said that they were going to upgrade the FOM broadcasts to HD soon. I know my local station is notorious for switching from HD to SD if there is a weather warning or something. dcvee 07-11-2007, 09:51 PM Perhaps your local affiliate showed it in SD. I believe F1 films their own events...that is you use their feeds/camera's and from what I understand(if it's correct)they are NOT HD cameras. I was told F1 does not own any digital equipment and that they have "signed a deal" in late 06 to buy HD equipment but they have not as of yet. Could be all BS but that's just what I was told. To my understanding, only the US & Canadian GP's were shot using HD camera's...both with Fox equipment. From a few other people I've talked to from Europe, they get every race in HD. Now this "HD" could really just be a progressive scan 16:9 picture making it Enhanced Definition (ED). Without someone analyzing the stream to get the bit information we will never really know. As for Fox, the feed I saw was not "HD", but just an upconverted ED video stream. Fox used this upconversion for the Canadian, US, French, and British GP's. The problem is Fox does not HAVE to use the EXACT feed provided by the FIA. Fox has the ability to "dumb it down" if you will, to a ED feed. So by Fox doing that, we really have no idea if the FIA feed was true HD, and missed a great opportunity to find out. Here's a quick recap of broadcasting qualities: Standard Definition (SD): 480i picture, 4:3 aspect ratio Enhanced Definition (ED): 480p picture, 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio High Definition (HD): 720p, 1080i, or 1080p picture, 16:9 aspect ratio dcvee 07-12-2007, 04:22 PM I know for sure the FIA provides networks around the world with the same standard feed. Man, I can't say I'm correct but I seriously doubt that. Conversions are conversions it's as simple as that. What's needed is camera equipment that can film HD broadcasts. My point was the FIA does not have that equipment and they use their own camera equipment. http://forums.thecarlounge.net/zerothread?id=3331840 Some interesting reading. Don murdoc158 07-12-2007, 04:31 PM http://forums.thecarlounge.net/zerothread?id=3331840 Some interesting reading. Don Yeah I'll say. They don't seem to know what's going on either. The UK has it in HD, but no one else does? The link to avsforums seems to sound like it is just and ED feed but is shot in 16:9. Like I said, without actually reading the bitstream information as it's coming in, it's hard to know for sure. One thing I know for sure though is that the uncompressed video on Fox that I got with my antenna looked 100x better than the compressed video Speed usually shows on my satellite dish. Now if only Speed would get around to launching that HD channel....:( dcvee 07-12-2007, 05:43 PM Yeah I'll say. They don't seem to know what's going on either.
