hey i recently purchased a 1983 533i and was refured to this site through a bmw specialist. i am interested in putting coilovers on the car but dont know if this is the best option. i have only found a ground control coilover conversion, and i know i need to get away from my stock shocks how should i go. i am going to do the work myself so whats my best and easiest option?

i have their coilovers on my car, they are a great addition, i would use revalved bilsteins, even non revalved bilsteins are fine for up to 300 pound spring rates.
Im using 380 in rear and 520 in front and it handles great, i would use an 8 inch spring for front and rear since you can choose free length.
The car doesnt oversteer or understeer, its completely neutral.
You can use sway bars to fine tune the suspension and adjustable sway bar links to set preload as well.
You can use their adjustable Koni's as well so you can adjust your damper rates, not sure how far you want to go though.
I would also get strut tower bars to reduce the increased flexing that stiffer shocks/springs add.

coilovers: 400+tax and shipping
bilstein sports: 420+tax and shipping
revalving the shocks and struts: 280 roughly
sway bars: 300-400 roughly
sway bar endlinks: 125+shipping
strut braces: 300+shipping
urethane rear shock mounts: 119+tax and shipping
camber plates: 300+tax and shipping

i guess it all depends on what you want to do with the car, i wouldnt put anything on any car i own besides race suspension

One thing you have to worry about is how stiff the car becomes and the ability to drive in the rain, you would need REALLY good tires when running spring rates like mine or stiffer, my car just slides around driving like a granny in the rain. You can take the sway bars off to counter that to a big degree.

What exactly do you want out of the car? i just wouldnt put anything besides coilovers on the E28 as all the other springs are just too soft, even for daily driver cars.

im running KAW coilovers and are perfekt for occasional track use and regular road driving. www.fahrwerke.de

i can only recommend them. also running bielstein shoks and h&r springs is IMO one of the best setups to go with and you can pick what spring set you want depending on your ride comfort etc.

it all really depends on what you will do with the car, i recommend coilovers or a similar setup it will make a big difference.

and if your interested in the KAW's let me know they only sell them in germany so just PM me. Im running the plus kit 45 40 and you can see it on the car in my sig.
