I've seen some people put what appears to be the new M3's steering wheel in their E90/E92s and I definitely want to do the same, my car doesn't have the sports package and IMO the steering wheel is pretty bad, it's too hard and thin and not at all like what I would want it to be which is thick and soft like the M3s wheel or the one in the sports package.

Can I go to my dealer and buy it from them? If not the M3 wheel, which I don't see how people can have already if the M3 isn't out yet? I'd be perfectly happy with the sports package steering wheel too.

Around how much would the wheel cost me? I'm also looking to get the aluminum pedals and chrome exhaust tips but I already know how much those cost and my friend has them on his 325i and they look great so those are definitely going on my car.

Check your BMW parts department for the price a sport package wheel. Also, have a local salvage yard check their network. It's a start for pricing.

Thanks for the suggestion, I pitched the idea to my dad, he already said he'd consider the aluminum pedals (we had a Mercedes C class loaner with aluminum pedals and so he knows how big of a difference they can make, especially if your shoes are wet) and the chrome exhaust tips because they only cost $64 if I remember correctly.

The thing is, he said he asked someone at the BMW dealership we bought the car from and they told him to not bother with changing out the steering wheel, that it would cost too much and is a hassle with the airbag having to be reinstalled and everything, what do you guys say? I really prefer the sports package steering wheel, I like the feel of it at least three times more than the standard wheel so I definitely want it.

It is definitely a hassle but for sure doable. It might still cost more than what it is worth. The labor is the issue, not the cost of the wheel.
