View Full Version : Japanese market mods

Both of my M-cars have come to me via the Japanese market. They both have an exhaust temp warning light added - the M635 it's in the check control and the M5 it's been added to the warning lights in the instrument cluster.

Does anyone familiar with Japanese rules know what this is for? Where do the wires go, and what would happen if I disconnect and remove this? I'm hoping there aren't any other hidden mods that may have been done.

Personally, I'd keep them. They are a nice part of the car's heritage. Got pix?

I'll leave it in, but I'd really like to know what it does. I doubt it'll have any effect on the value, though who knows? I'd be more comfortable knowing what the thing does though.

I'm trying to find as much info as I can on both cars. I have a stack of maintenance records for the M5, but all in Japanese. Unfortunately, not much documentation on the M635. I do have the build sheets for both though.

These are pics before they got in my hands. The M5 in Japan, and the M635 in Western Canada. The M5 now has 16" style 5s replacing the TRXs and the I'm negotiating a set of staggered Alpina open lugs for the Shark. I still haven't got around to taking some decent pics myself:
