A serious pay increase might be in order for HAM, i think he has silenced most of his critics, i know he's in a contract now, but what do you think a good increase might be, yea it's silly season,

I believe his salary this year is 500k a year, but nevertheless he is a definite steal. Any rookie is not going to be paid very well but next year hamilton's salary will be 8 figures so I'm sure he'll do just fine.

I think i heard the announcers say that LH was requesting a ten fold pay increase.

that was Lewis Hamilton's father that was asking for the increase. i believe Hamilton is very happy w/his current pay, the kid strikes me as the type of driver that no matter how much he gets paid hell be happy drivering for any amount of money.

$300,000 is still more than 6 times what I earn in a year. :(

Good kid, he deserves it. A bargain indeed!

It was his father and he should keep his mouth shut. That is my opinion on the matter.

maybe or maybe not...

unfortunately you will not be doing any e36 cooling systems in 1 hour and get paid for 5. You won't be doing a clutch in an e36 m3 in 1.5hrs and getting paid for 7.

Gone are those days. You will be sitting in front of a computer trying to figure out what is wrong with the 550i. Then find it is a sensor. After spending 2 hours on the computer you get paid 30 minutes for changing the sensor.

Have fun :)

Hamilton has a retainer of $300K but he gets money from sponsors as well.

As for his father asking for a pay raise, I read there were incentives in his contract that would bump it up like if he was leading the championship at the half way point... which he is. And since his father is also his manager he has every right to ask McLaren to comply with the the contract.

$300k for a future champions is a steal. Better then a say a Ralf Schumacher who is making over $20M a year!

I think athletes are way overpaid. Yeah they are entertainment, but damn!!

I think money for athletes would benefit society if it went elsewhere, maybe to the POOR? Doctors? Police? Roads?

It will never happen, but it would be a nicer place if all these athletes didn't have so much money, and they blow it and end up broke once their fame is gone.

I sure would like to see the details of an F1 contract. Especially bonus money earned from points. Some drivers are receiving $50,000 per point earned. That's why they care about a point for 8th place! :)

The announcers said that RS was willing to take a pay cut to 2mil a year if they would keep him at Toyota.

One, you're an idiot and consistently spread misinformation on here, so I wouldn't expect you to be paid much. Two, I think people who do Hamilton's job are a bit rarer and higher profile than those who do yours ;)

It was his father and he should keep his mouth shut. That is my opinion on the matter.

yea, considering he worked 2 jobs and all that to be able to put keep his son in racing for years. yea, he wasnt willing to sacrafice anything at all, how selfish.

Yep. I see no problem with his dad/family getting something out of the deal considering that without him/them, Hamilton would be just an F1 fan, like us.

Earnings/Profit, are often influenced by the amount of people you effect.

Some folks spend there time complaining about high the fruit on the tree is, and a few,... go get a ladder and start picking it!

Guys figure out how it all works and then go enjoy the pursuit! I assume that is why you spend the money to drive a BMW instead of a simple Hyundai.

Jackie Stewart put it better than anyone else.

LH has not been weathered with the potentially career breaking pressures placed upon you once you have proven successful and delivered over expectations. It will be very interesting to see when LH hits a rut in his career and feels the pressures of manufactures, press, fans all over the world wanting him to perform just like he did in his maiden season. I love the kid and only hope that he takes it with the big heart he has and keeps on moving forward no matter how dim the light appears to be.

McLaren have a tremendous bargaining chip in their hands. I doubt they will let him go in the near future, but if they decide to do so, top dollar will come a knocking.

Why should that money be given to the poor? They can earn money just like everyone else.

Police and the others I agree with though.

Anyway, yeah he will get a bunch more money next year. I wonder how much money he is getting this year from sponsors. :eyecrazy

No they can't Matt. They can't make money because the rich are keeping them down.

This country is all about FREEdom. What can the individual person get for free? That is how America runs now. Why would anyone want to work when you can get free money? Free healthcare? etc?

Yes. My fiancee is underpaid teacher :) And so are the Police. However most of the higher government workers are overpaid.

I doubt he is hurting. I still think his father should shut his mouth though.

Yeah, I didn't really mean the poor as in people who take advantage of the giveaways from the government. Wrong wording.

Why should his father shut it? He is taking the best interests of his own son into priority and has always been there for his son. Read up on their history together, you would be surprised.

From what I just read, Hamiltons base is $400,000 yr plus $10,000 per point. By leading the championship at the halfway point he earned a bonus of 2.4 mil making his earnings so far 3.5 mil.

Hamilton seems like a very humble guy from his interviews, he seems like the type that would not take much for granted, and is thankful for even the small things. Great guy, and great driver.

If the driver is not complaining then why is his manager(father)?

He is making plenty of money for a rookie. Just like in the NFL... you might get rookie pay. You show you are better and get more money.

You don't get agents, do you? The driver is paid to race. The agent (manager) is paid to complain on the driver's behalf. His job is to do so incessantly in a never-ending quest for more money.

When my agent asked my boss for more money I got my office moved to the basement and he stole my stapler...stape.stape..stape..stapler.
