On May 11 we ordered a 328 Conv. for my wife. We were told they expected a week 26 (end of June) production w/ a end of July/early Aug. delivery. Today (7/6) we're told it will now be a week 34 production (week of Aug 20).
Edited: corrected del. date
Is this a common occurrence? Does BMW have that poor a handle on their production scheduling? I understand the convertibles are much harder to come by at this time but that's a big error. Are they running into problems w/ the convertibles?
Anyone else run into this? Anyone know when the 328 Conv. model year changeover is?
Just a guess, but I'd think the delay would be more due to your dealer's allocation/scheduling than anything else.
Did the status of the vehicle on the production side go to scheduled and then change or is this info relayed from the dealer?

I thought at one time it was in "scheduled for production" status but I could be wrong about that. I wasn't really tracking it that closely. Right now it's in "on order" status.
I just have a hard time understanding an 8 week error, a couple of weeks I could understand but 8??

You got bumped by your dealer?

Your allocation must have gotten bumped. I ordered my 335i Conv on May 3. However, the dealer didn't get the allocation until May 30. The production date was 3rd week of June. It ended up getting built 2nd week of June and left Bremerhaven on about June 12. Arrived in Charleston on July 1. The status hasn't changed from "En Route" so it may not be at the vehicle prep center yet. Doesn't matter much at this point. I am scheduled for a 7/23 performance center delivery (PCD). They are so booked i couldn't get it moved up earlier.
I highly recommend the PCD. It is first rate. Picked up my Z3 that way. It was awesome.
I spoke to my dealer the other day. They didn't receive any Conv allocation for July. Maybe your dealer expected one and didn't get it.
Good luck anyway.

I wonder if someone bought your allocation. That would be bad business by the dealership if anyone found out.

I very seriously doubt this is due to BMW's logistics. Like everyone else has said, you probably got bumped by your dealer for a variety of reasons.

FWIW, I ordered a 335 convertible on June 21. Went into production yesterday with an expected completion date of July.

Are you sure you got all the facts correct? Built in June but not ready to be picked up for two months? That doesn't sound right to me. I ordered last week of May, production week second week in June, at the dealer available for pickup yesterday. Basically less than a month between finish production and available for pickup.

Edit: Whoops, my error in my first post, said Aug when I meant July.
Yes, I am suspicious but w/out proof of being bumped there's nothing I can or will do. However if I did find out I was bumped (and had been given this song-and-dance) I would cancel the order in a heartbeat. They have a right to sell the car for whatever price they can get for it but they don't have a right (and it's poor business practice) to lie to me about it. (I have a right to take my business elsewhere).
