rmani 07-06-2007, 04:01 PM Ferraris are looking awfully quick in practice, especially Raikonnen. Anyone have predictions?

Hamilton
Alonso
Trulli << Throw in a little oddball
BMW looks slow in practice. :(
Jmabarone 07-06-2007, 11:44 PM as much as I want Ferrari to win the championship, I really believe that McLaren has a trick up their sleeve. I mean, home GP for them, home GP for their second driver, who nows has the points lead.
I have to go with:
Hamilton
Kimi
Massa
Heidfeld
Alonso
Kubica
Sato
Kovalinen (or however the hell you spell his name)
Jake
VeNo///M 07-07-2007, 12:01 AM Why does everyone have Kimi ahead of Massa? He tanked it all season, had a good race in France but only beat Massa in the pits. Now everyone thinks hes Ferrari's #1 or something.
CaracasE30 07-07-2007, 12:33 AM 1. Hamilton
2. Kimi
3. Massa
LJSE34 07-07-2007, 01:39 AM I feel an Alonso comeback and Hamilton's first DNF

Lot of peeps discounting Alonso.

Kimi apparently made a mistake at the last corner that cost him a few tenths, BUT I have a suspicion that both Mclarens are running a little light to ensure they will be starting near the front. I just hope Kimi can out launch Hamilton like he did in France although it's gonna be tough since he's staring from the dirty side of the track this time around.
Either way it looks like we're in for a great GP.:buttrock
Infini IV 07-07-2007, 04:10 PM God, that Kimi is a MONSTER... Good job to Hamilton though. He actually pulled it off for pole at his home GP.
digitaldragon03 07-07-2007, 05:31 PM Damn, Kimi messed up big and still managed to get P1, at the time. Had he not gone off, im very confident he would have stayed at P1 by a big margin.

Kimi should do talk radio. I could listen to him drone on for hours. :rolleyes

Kimi looks to be a bit heavy on fuel as well. If not for the bobble, Kimi easy takes P1. Assuming Kimi gets a good start, this will be a battle between him and Hamilton.
Its nice to see Speed make it into Q2 for a change. For a minute there it looked like he might make Q1. In a post-qualifying interview, Speed sounded happy and confident, which is unusual for him. Maybe there is a points finish for him tomorrow (assuming he finishes at all).
prash 07-08-2007, 03:44 AM Hamilton
Kimi
Alonso...easily could be Massa though.
Anyone see the qualifying? It was intense. The last lap Kimi almost lost it on the last corner and he still managed to pull out the fastest lap.....than Hamilton came through about 5 seconds later and grabbed pole from Kimi. Very entertaining stuff.
TAMUmpower 07-08-2007, 03:47 AM LH crashes, FA celebrates, Ferrari wins

Fastest lap by about half a second... Timed his fast laps PERFECTLY...
TAMUmpower 07-08-2007, 03:01 PM LH crashes, FA celebrates, Ferrari wins
If you count LH goof pitstop a crash I was right. haha
Massa deserved a podium. Would have been nice, and probably easy for him to put LH 4th.
m3fuz 07-08-2007, 03:30 PM That was a good race - good win for Raikkonen and Ferrari. It's nice to see Ferrari getting back to their winning ways. I only hope that Alonso can make a run at Hamilton and make the points standing competitive again.

Deserved a podium how? For passing backmarkers in significantly slower cars? When it came time to pass a decent driver, in a semi decent car, he couldn't do it for the final 15 laps. ...and how'd he do trying to pass LH at Sepang when at the time Ferrari was also the better car?
Drive of the day goes to Kimi - it's a long season and he's showing you've got to judge things over the course of 18 races not one or two. We'll wait and see...
rmani 07-08-2007, 05:05 PM looks as though kimi likes the new aero package and is finally getting comfortable in the car. those mclaren boys better watch out. :evil2
Hell of a job my Massa too coming from last on the grid.:alright
abrcrombe 07-08-2007, 05:53 PM Nice drive by Massa. He may have passed slower cars, but passing in F1 is hard like they say every week.
Finally a mistake by LH. It was bound to happen, and it is a small slip up, but I'll take it. He is a fantastic driver, just don't like him.
Kimi... great win. That's all that needs to be said.

Deserved it as in, as a driver car package he would have easily been on a podium if it wasnt so unfortunate that the car stalled on the grid. And you cant compare to sepag, that was a different track, different car. He passed the best he could. He could have been .5 or .6 faster than kubica but he couldnt get close enough because of the aero defecit being that close. If he would have started in his grid position, his pace would have been enough, even through pit rotation to have moved up a position.
Don Nguyen 07-08-2007, 06:12 PM Good race. Glad to see Ferrari finally mixing things up, as far as wins goes.
digitaldragon03 07-08-2007, 06:24 PM Hamilton is starting to buckle.
m3fuz 07-08-2007, 06:55 PM Is Stepney the sole reason Ferrari was having issues earlier this season? It seems like now that he's gone, they're back to their usual selves. Or is it more a function of Raikkonen getting more comfortable?
JuliusPleaser 07-08-2007, 07:29 PM Hamilton is starting to buckle.

Ferraris wind tunnel broke 2 months ago. They didn't admit it until recently but they were unable to update and make revisions to the car until the French GP two weeks ago. Now they they're able to continue to make the car better they are competitive again.
CaracasE30 07-09-2007, 01:37 AM how is Hamilton starting to buckle? He finished ON the podium....AGAIN.
....consistency wins championships.
Deadkennedys 07-09-2007, 02:58 AM yeah, hamilton messed up in Qualifying alot as well... waited till the end and got pole..... just a bad bit of luck, 3rd....how many current drivers have podiumed more than once in one season again?
that kid is, and will be amazing, nobody can be perfect, sometimes you just cant win a race, a mistake in the pits happens to everyone, its inevitable
TAMUmpower 07-09-2007, 03:07 AM It was funny to me how he was like "i lost a lot of time in the pits" lol, he didnt loose more than like a second tops, if even half a second. Its possible they still pulled the fuel hose out right on time. He only moved like a foot foward. He jumped when the lolly pop flipped, which usually happens 1 to 2 seconds before they are sent out.
I would think the place he lost a lot of time would be on the track. He just kept slipping back. I think something about his driving style caused mad tyre degredation or something because alonso was up there crusing pretty good..

Gotcha - didn't know that.

Hamilton stated in post race interviews that he chose a different rear setup than Alonso and that didn't work out well. Hence, he had more problems with tires. They also decided to back off and save the engine once they realized they had no chance to get back to P1.
As far as Massa, he certainly didn't deserve anything getting stuck behind Kubica. Massa was obviously faster through sectors 1 & 2 ... I guess he didn't want it enough.
EIAlfonso 07-09-2007, 12:23 PM how is Hamilton starting to buckle? He finished ON the podium....AGAIN.

Unfortunately true
They need to change the points to reflect a greater reward for a win. Where it stands right now 1st place is only two more points than for first loser.
This leads to everyone being careful on track and not going for it because they know a position on the track will only cost them a couple of pints, as opposed to a DNF may cost them any chance of a title hope.
Kimi could win 8 races this year to Hamiltons 2 wins and very easily lose the championship.
Stealthauto 07-09-2007, 12:32 PM not a big fan of the points structure either.....
Go massa!
rmani 07-09-2007, 02:53 PM here's a little something I pulled off the ferrari board I think you guys might like. I am also not a fan of the current points system which rewards consistency more than winning. I hope next season they go back to the old system. This is a comparison of how the driver's would stand after the british gp based on the new and old points system.
After Silverstone:
New system:
1. Lewis Hamilton - 70 points
2. Fernando Alonso - 58 points
3. Kimi Räikkönen - 52 points
4. Felipe Massa - 51 points
5. Nick Heidfeld - 33 points
6. Robert Kubica - 22 points
7. Giancarlo Fisichella - 17 points
8. Heikki Kovalainen - 14 points
9. Alexander Wurz - 8 points
10. Jarno Trulli - 7 points
11. Nico Rosberg - 5 points
12. David Coultard - 4 points
13. Takuma Sato - 4 points
14. Mark Webber - 2 points
15. Ralf Schumacher - 2 points
16. Sebastian Vettel - 1 point
17. Jenson Button - 1 point
Old system:
1. Lewis Hamilton - 56 points
2. Fernando Alonso - 44 points
3. Kimi Räikkönen - 43 points
4. Felipe Massa - 39 points
5. Nick Heidfeld - 19 points
6. Robert Kubica - 12 points
7. Giancarlo Fisichella - 7 points
8. Heikki Kovalainen - 5 points
9. Alexander Wurz - 4 points
10. David Coultard - 2 points
11. Nico Rosberg - 1 point
12. Takuma Sato - 1 point
13. Jarno Trulli - 1 point
With the old points system, Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber, and Ralf Schumacher would not have scored any points. Jarno would also be in last place with 1 point in the old system vs. 7 points today. DC and Nico's positions would also be swapped.
I think WDC points should be all about who wins the race.
Constructor's points should be on the current scale, because consistent points finishes is the objective for manufacturers. But for drivers, it should be way more about winning.

100% agree. Too bad the FIA seem to be doing things opposite of what would attract more viewers.
