The car is a 1990 525i. Ive noticed that it gets up to operating temp rather quickly and i was wondering if this was normal. I will start the car in the morning, let it idle for about 60 sec and take off. About a mile down the road its already up to normal operating temp (12 oclock on the temp gauge). Is that normal? Ive never had a car get up to temp this fast. is it possible the previous owner installed a colder thermostat?

Thanks in advance

My 93 525i heats up rather quickly as well. I usually let it idle for about 5 seconds then drive off (obviously not flooring it) and about a mile down the road, full operating temp. I believe this is normal for these smaller l6 engines.

My grandfather had one of those cursed subarus and the first thing that tipped him off to a blown headgasket was that he noticed it got up to temp much faster than usual. Since ive only had this car for a week, I dont know what usual is!! so i asked. Thanks for your replies guys.
