View Full Version : Is 2007 model year over?
BavarianDDR17 07-06-2007, 01:41 PM In another post it was stated that dealers can no longer order 2007 3-series, and that you can't order a 2008 for a while. I'm confused why they would do that cause that definitely equals lost sales, and on top of that the 2008 5-series has already arrived at dealerships. Could a 335i coupe still be ordered? 2007 or otherwise?
I know the coupes/convertibles have been up to 3 month waits, so they're probably fully allocated production wise for '07 being that they shut down and re-tool in Aug or Sept. You should still be able to order a sedan and have it delivered before they start pumping out '08s.
Beer Goggles 07-06-2007, 01:57 PM Retool as in, change the sticker to say 2008. Those who ordered cars are still waiting on 07s, but there are 07s on lots everywhere. Unless you want some strange combo your car should be available.
sal123 07-06-2007, 02:29 PM I would also imagine that there is still dealer stock on hand that they want to unload before taking orders for new cars. Hoping people will settle for what's available today rather than waiting a few months to PLACE an order and then waiting even longer to get it.
Barvia SLV335XI 07-06-2007, 04:14 PM i have heard through my dealer that there will be only one more shipment of 07's 335's in the standard transmission coming into the US
tomegun 07-06-2007, 05:07 PM OK, even though my car is on a truck to the dealer, I just had a flash (of anger or something) when I just read this thread. If they want people to buy what they have on the lot, order some variety! I just saw the saddle leather last week and didn't see the aluminum (in person) until after I ordered mine. Plus, some of us would like to have the ultimate driving machine with a stick! If the dealerships I went to would have put more combos into the mix, I would have considered buying off the lot.
Is it a matter of customers wanting and being willing to pay for cars just the way they want them or is it a matter of the dealerships buying cars people don't want? I think it is a mixture of both.
If I was in the market for a Acura TL, I would like the fact that I could go on the lot and tell them the color and whether I want navigation or not. It is a little more complex with Infiniti and Lexus, but not much.
Having said all of that, the fact that my 335 is on a truck now says which way I decided to go. :D
BavarianDDR17 07-06-2007, 05:12 PM Well I figure that the 2007 model year is coming to an end, but because 07 was the first year for the coupes I assumed there wouldn't be much changes made for 08 (and if so, maybe minor mechanical changes). The car I'm looking for is:
335i coupe
- Steptronic auto
- Sport package
- Premium package
- PDC
- Heated seats
- Platinum bronze metallic
- Cream beige leather
A little specific and I definitely do NOT want nav/iDrive. I think it'll have ot be ordered so I guess I'm just wondering when the next order could be placed.
BavarianDDR17 07-06-2007, 05:45 PM ... And in response to Tomequn, I agree. In my case I do want a beige-y color but most of the ones at the dealer were silver, white or beige so for someone who wants a unique color they are out of luck. Plus I think most of the 335's are being ordered with iDrive and because I don't want that I'm out of luck as well!
MOTO69JOE 07-06-2007, 06:05 PM complete BS i just ordered a 07 not more than three hours ago.

BillSD 07-06-2007, 08:27 PM I doubt you are going to find many, coupes anyway, on dealer lots. The reason you don't see much variety at the dealers is because the order the most popular combinations. Popular doesn't mean mean best best any stretch. I didn't see my Monaco/Saddle/Burl before my ED....but it was a great choice! BTW - I'm taking redelivery in an hour :D Soooo excited!
Redbeard 07-06-2007, 11:44 PM all i know is mom dukes is taking hold of a coupe sparkling graphite/creme beige/light natural wood....sport, auto, paddles, winter, etc.....and im psyched to help her break it in.....should be in by end of the month, says en route on the bmw circle. hoping this combo works out well....although really u cant go wrong. june built HPFP review on its way!

Bill,
How is your car working out? I have the same specs with 6MT at the port waiting to clear customs. HOPEFULLY next week.
I heard this combo is pretty rare, too. With the stick going out it may be a collector?
Ty Vil 07-07-2007, 03:09 PM There's no truth in any of this. YOUR particular dealer may be out of allocation slots but 07's are still being ordered.
BavarianDDR17 07-07-2007, 03:48 PM Anyone know when 2008's we'll be rolled out?
Ty Vil 07-07-2007, 10:50 PM Production converts over in August and starts full time in September.
BavarianDDR17 07-08-2007, 12:18 AM Ty Vil -
Thank you for the info. So when is the cut off between ordering for a 2007 and 2008?
Ty Vil 07-08-2007, 12:35 AM It depends on the car and what your dealer has for available build slots.
For example I wanted the last week of June to order a 328i coupe and we didn't have any slots unused for July build. We had no allocation for that particular car for August when the factory was converting to 08's. Therefore the SOONEST build slot I could get would be a September build and with 8 more weeks I may not have a car until Halloween ish.
However, if I wanted a 4 door we had July slots for cars (we have more allocation for sedans than coupes anyway) that were just going to be "in stock" and I could convert one of those to the specs I wanted. That was the last week in June. By the 5th of July my car was built and is sitting at the port waiting for a ship.
However if you're leasing the car, there's ZERO reason to wait for an 08. You're just putting yourself off longer and don't need to worry about model year depreciation.
BavarianDDR17 07-08-2007, 03:26 AM It would definitely be a purchase and not a lease. That being said, do you think it would be smarter to wait for an 08 or if there is a dealer that has a slot left for an 07 just to go with that? D*mn Halloween sounds like forever!
Ty Vil 07-08-2007, 12:42 PM i have heard through my dealer that there will be only one more shipment of 07's 335's in the standard transmission coming into the US
And while we're on the subject your dealer is spreading terrible information. Each car is ordered individually so it's not like they send over "a ship of standard transmissions"

It depends on you.
Are you going to keep the car 12 years in which case depreciation won't matter when it has 150K?
If you're only keeping it 5 or 6 you should probably wait.
If you're keeping it less time than that, leasing is a MUCH better deal.
BavarianDDR17 07-08-2007, 06:56 PM I meant more in terms of any mechanical upgrades being made for 2008. I figure nothing major will happen because 07 was the first year, but that being said maybe there were small issues that will be fixed for 08. Any truth to this?
BavarianDDR17 07-09-2007, 03:44 AM ... although after thinking about it further, I guess any small issues would have been fixed during the 07 model year.

Doubtful.
Like I said, are you buying or leasing?
BavarianDDR17 07-11-2007, 01:43 AM Buying. I ended up searching all over California and happened to find one in San Diego that has everything on my list, but in place of the Park Distance Control is the iPod/USB hookup. So instead of having to order and going crazy waiting, I could just have the PDC put in at the dealer. I just think that things work better from the factory... should I worry if the PDC is installed at the dealer?
BavarianDDR17 07-11-2007, 02:44 AM I'll start a new thread with this.
Ty Vil 07-11-2007, 02:46 AM Are you kidding? Ipod/USB is a WAY better option anyway.
PDC: Come on, it's a 3 not a 750iL. There's no reason for it on an E9X
PDC was right there on my list with Active Cruise and Active Steering as completely worthless options.
