blue arrow 07-06-2007, 06:34 AM Hi,
My car arrived today so my build starts, i will document with pics here as i progress. Heres some of my car and some parts that i already have for it.
The turbo is the Gtk650, Newgen Wastegate which has the swing valve technology. Rays lightweight Re30. H&R adjustable coilover. Apexi turbo mufflers with 115mm exit. Bride carbon/kevlar lightweight seats.
First step, the motor goes in and car goes out for a tubular exhaust manifold.
Lastly my previous project car ,Nissan Silvia with sr20det Blacktop motor, 400whp at 2.0bar boost.

OMG, it's going to be sick!
eurotekm3 07-06-2007, 04:33 PM good luck w/ the project!!!
OT: how does a GTK turbo compare to a Garrett GT35R turbo ?

Hi,
In Durban.
Roadmaster is building the manifold.
For tuning: Unichip for the timing of the the stock ecu.
Haltek for the fuel.
topshotta02 07-24-2007, 09:14 AM nice
i lived in jo'burg for 2 years
never heard of roadmaster
as for the electronics, why dont u just get an autronic and control everything(including vanos)
or you could always take the car to Ob and have him retune the factory dme
either way i wish u the best of luck and i can assure you from personal experience if tuned properly the car will be an absolute beast

Joburg is 600km from Durban, good chance you haven't heard of them.
My s/c M3 runs similar tuning with no problems at all, besides Ob is in Jhb and i'd rather have the tuner of my car closer to me, i believe in a project like this that is very important.
What is Autronic, havent heard of this here.
blue arrow 07-24-2007, 01:13 PM Topshotta02
I found a local supplier of the Autronic and did some research on it, seems quite good, thanks for that.
Does a price converted to Usd = $4000 sound reasonable for this set up?
EUROM3TURBO 07-24-2007, 01:19 PM what not use MOTEC?
blue arrow 07-24-2007, 01:45 PM what not use MOTEC?
No supplier here, can import but then I'll have no back up on it.
blue arrow 09-03-2007, 09:18 AM Progress really slow, manifold halfway there.
Some parts arrived today here they are.
More to follow later.
Clutchmasters twin pack clutch and flywheel.
Arias Pistons, Pauter rods.
Arp head and main stud kits.

highboostingm3 09-03-2007, 11:02 AM A build after my own heart. Looking great so far!
I am using the Turbonetics New Gen wastegate and Godzilla BOV. Definitely different and they are excellent prducts. Nice turbo you got there. Gonna be interesting to see how it all works out. :alright
a32guy 09-03-2007, 11:14 AM Gonna be a sweet build, I can tell!!

Cam, got a vid/sound clip of a Godzilla in action?
VivaM3 09-03-2007, 11:19 AM i really like the JDM theme, partly because it is rare on a european car, and partly because i'm biased ;). so the Apex'i exhaust is going to exit the car at and angle? i ask because my brother has been toying with the idea of fabricating piping for a true single exhaust for his M Coupe and picking up a JIC Magic Ti canister to achieve the same look i have on the Supra. and what is your piping going to look like when its done? my brother isn't sure where to route the piping - i suggested to him to keep it on the same side of the car as the header, so that it doesn't have to cross over the drive shaft/differential/etc. but i haven't studied the underbody extensively, nor am i an expert on the M Coupe, so that was just an initial suggestion. i figure if you're making the switch to a single exhaust on the M Coupe, it might point us in the right direction.
TIA

ive never priced one but that seems a bit exspensive
then again it had to pass customs to get there so...

Man, you are really breaking my balls. :lol I wish I had a sound clip. It would mean my car is running and I am out having fun boosting.
My Supra had the Godzilla BOV also. Here is a video of that. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4438201714222121468&hl=en)

Hi I went for the Rays wheels more for the weight than anything else, its the lightest on there whole range, 1 piece forged.
The rear exhaust is going to be 2 pieces straight out in the stock location.
Bigsalgt 09-04-2007, 11:50 AM Very nice build! Can't wait to see numbers out of this project! Cam, is that you driving?
blue arrow 10-25-2007, 09:46 AM Hi,
Just got the car back with the manifold done, turbo positioned.
Exhaust done as well.
Not perfect but i'm happy with it.
Also got more parts shown below.
When i get them off the car i'll post some more detailed pics.

highboostingm3 10-25-2007, 12:43 PM Very interesting turbo location! But I guess it needs to be up front for right-hand drive. The exhaust is different and the manifold is pretty snake-like! Shuasha 10-25-2007, 01:15 PM Gee, are those Bride seats? I couldn't tell from the writing ALL OVER them.

Notice the steering column to the left of the manifold, the turbo as a result will only go in this location or on the other side of the motor as in Mr Blondes car. I've dumped the aircon, the turbo sits now in the place of the compressor.
The Bride seats were $1350 each, light, strong and FIA approved.
I would have preferred less writing on the seat but i couldn't get them without it, no stock available.
Here's where i got them: http://www.optionimports.com/bridegias.html
VivaM3 10-25-2007, 02:12 PM I would have preferred less writing on the seat but i couldn't get them without it, no stock available.
regardless, they look fabulous. it seems people either love or hate the gradiation. i for one love it. but i can see why many people prefer the simpler look of a single Bride logo on their seats as opposed to several.
also, thanks for getting back to me on the exhaust setup. when i first read that you'd be using an Apex'i canister, i automatically assumed/pictured a single exhaust setup. thanks for clearing that up. i think the dual canister look will be unique - i've never seen anything like it on the Z3 M Coupe or Roadster (i've seen a few with dual tips instead of quad tips, but it looked nothing like two canisters with giant tips)...looks killer :)

Yeah I was also thinking the location of top mount on the exhaust side...but not sure if the steering column would allow enough room for the downpipe.
Very cool! Can't wait to see results.

I got a really good deal, I visited them in April while in LA. Offered cash and got a better price, bought other stuff too.
Been dealing with these guys for a few years now.
The`seats were listed at $1725 back then as it is now.

sorry for the late reply
you have to remember that the price your paying over there is not only going to get you the system, but also the support from the local retaler
otherwise youd have no local support
i think anything under 40K rand is good when you factor everything in
project looks real interesting

+1, what modifications did you have to make to the interior trim to allow the seats to fit?
and are vendors still trying to get rid of S-03 PP surpluses? or have you just had those tires for a long time?

No interior mods for the seats.
Just made custom brackets for the seat sliders.
These seats still have tilt and slide functions.
Didn't even know the so3's were discontinued, bought them new yesterday.

mcoupes52 11-14-2007, 09:07 PM Hey just out of curiousity, how tall are you? It looks like your seats are mounted forward quite a bit. I am 6' ft tall so I need the factory seat all the way back to be comfortable. I imagine I would want an aftermarket seat about the same position as stock, but I understand that our door buldges out and interferes with large shoulder bolsters. Most coupe owners seem to be using recaro pole positions, but they all have clearance issues and are mounted in a forward position to clear the door buldge. You do have an extra 5mm clearance on each bolster because the GIAS are only 550mm wide and the PP are 560mm wide. Anyway, BEAUTIFUL car!!!! What are the offsets on your Volks, to me a 255 sounds very beefy up front for our cars, but given the right offsets Im sure it's do-abe as you have shown here.
bennyfizzle 11-15-2007, 12:25 AM that exhaust looks INSANE.

These seats have built in sliders, they can go all the way back.

Thanks for the response Blue Arrow, I think when it comes time I will buy a set of the Exas just so I can be different and have more clearance at the same time. Wheels look really, really good!! WHen you ordered them did they ask what offset you wanted or did they choose for you based on your car? Reason I ask is bc for 18x8.5 you get a choice of +42 or +35, Im certain you have +42, or else that wheel would be sticking out alot. Also in the rear you can only choose +25 so that must be what those are. JUst a suggestion... you might want 15mm spacers once you lower it because its going to tuck in way too far.

He is saying that there is nothing wrong with "jdm" styling ( ie: volks, canister mufflers, brides etc.) But there are still some people on bmw forums who will flame you because they think it's stupid to modify your german car with japanese taste. I say to each their own.

...in other words, JDM styling/modification (or any non-DTM styling/modification for that matter) is for the most part innovative and pioneering. the people who take this route will have unique cars that stand out. those trying to keep it "OEM" or "DTM" are just jumping on the bandwagon...they're sheep. and please don't take this the wrong way - there's nothing wrong with keeping it "DTM." unfortunately a majority of those who support the "OEM" and "DTM" things are at the far end of the spectrum and don't show respect for anything other than a euro kept "OEM" or "DTM." i'll say it again, there's nothing wrong with going that route...its just a nice change to see someone trying to be different and not going down the same road that EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER already went down.
blue arrow 11-23-2007, 01:13 AM Besides being Jdm, the parts were chosen for function as well.
The seats are FIA approved, extremely light and fit well.
The wheels 1 piece forged, light also.
The canisters just look good, Jdm or not.
Anyway i don't give a damn on who thinks its not in good taste.
I like it, its my money and my car.

that's one of the things i love about Japanese OEM and aftermarket engineering - they adhere to the "Form Follows Function" philosophy more than anyone else in the world.
COUNA 11-23-2007, 11:16 AM I'm lovin this project
blue arrow 01-14-2008, 10:42 AM Progress is slow i know, but not far from complete now.

Airbox is going to be powder coated black, but thats the final product otherwise.

According to my tuner, it is easier to tune like this.
I am hopeing that it makes no differerence to the hp.

blue arrow 09-06-2008, 07:16 AM Finally got my car on the road.
Running the motor in for the last few weeks now.
The turbo starts spool at 3000rpm and max boost at 4400rpm(.7bar).
Car feels really good, i've only revved to 5000rpm though.
Here's some pics.
I also need some advice as i want to do a colour change, any advice will be appreciated. I was thinking a darkish candy blue which will go well with the bronze wheels. I still like the silver also.
