Recently I found out I had an oil leak.
I was later told it was coming from the front gearbox seal.
I took it to the local mechanic and they had a look at it. They said they wouldn't go near it because apparently there are some strange tools you need to work on BMWs.
Obviously after that he told me to take it to a BMW dealer but unfortunately I don't have the time or the money right now.
Is there anything I can do as a temporary fix until I can get it professionally fixed?
Thanks.

Go to another independent mechanic that isn't such a little priss. This guy obviously just doesn't want to deal with BMWs and thinks they are something beyond the laws of physics. Hell I tried to get Jiffy lube to do a coolent flush and they said some BS on how it requires special tools as well...yeah so I took it across the street to someone who actually knows how to work on cars and been taking it there since.
If anything, e34s are easier to work on than many other cars, especially v6 FWD cars!
If anyone gives you that excuse, just run the other way and never go back there for anything.

Interesting. Thanks for that.
So any good Japanese car mechanic should be able to fix the problem?

Not really in my area, in fact the only dealers around here are Holden and Ford. The only European dealers/mechanics close to me are BMW and Mercedes-Benz (which are still about 45 minutes from here), and as I said, I don't really have the time or the money to go to them.
I'll see if anyone closer to me can do BMWs, and if they can't, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and find time on the weekends to go to BMW.
The last thing I need is for it to break on me.
