View Full Version : American Le Mans Series @ Road America
AL325iCab 07-05-2007, 07:59 PM I think its the weekend of Aug. 12th, or something like that.
I was just wondering if it would be worth to go. This would be my first time up there, so I just thought I'd see if anyone in here has been before, and how it was. I don't think it's super cheap, so I wouldn't want to waste that money...
Thanks all!
Andy
murdoc158 07-05-2007, 10:39 PM Definitely worth it. I was there Saturday and Sunday last year. BMC CCA put on a hell of a presentation in turn 14. So much free food... :redspot. Champ car will be there as well this year. I plan on going Saturday and Sunday this year tentative to a final racing schedule.
kbcobra289rs 07-05-2007, 10:49 PM I can't comment on the actual ALMS racing but Road America is a very cool track. I did Skip Barber up there a couple years agao.

Dude is that a serious question?? Go. You will not be disappointed. This year ALMS weekend is going to be HUGE!! CART and ALMS in the same weekend is unheard of up at RA. Ive been a season pass holder up there for 5 yrs now and will continue to be until Im permenitly bedridden. Its going to be the best weekend that Ive ever been there for, hands down. Just commit....you'll thank me later.

Last year we had a bunch of sponsors that paid for everything. May not happen this year. I am working with the sponsors and the Board to get something going.
This is Badger Bimmers 35th so we would like to do something special, but cost is a concern.
And to the OP - it is an expensive ticket this year ($130) as compared to last, ($90) but the amount of access, places to go around the track, etc, $130 is small cash. Nothing else compares.
Except for Brian Redman, which is next weekend. :redspot:redspot:redspot:redspot:redspot
Going to both!

AL325iCab 07-06-2007, 10:50 AM Thanks all,
I am going to definitely try and go. I did see the ticket price and yeah it isn't cheap, but it sounds like it is worth every penny. Can't wait!
Thanks again,
andy

Compared to other sporting events though $130 is cheap. Last year they took donations at the gate and you received $10 off admission.
With RA, you are allowed access into the pits, can drive all around the track and whereever, whenever - food at the track is decent, and if CCA comes through, the food is superb.
Basically, the entry price for RA is like getting Courtside seats to a basketball game (except some teams actually let you go up close to the cars. :buttrock) or sitting at the 50 yard line at a football game.
In addition, for the $130 ticket - that is 2 days, not 1, so you are getting 2 FULL, 8+ hours, days of racing - and it is not just the ALMS race - there are all sorts of activities and racing going on.
It's really really awesome.
I'll load some pics tonight.
SunzOut 07-06-2007, 01:36 PM Joel, who orgaises several cruises from Milwaukee plans to have a group drive up on the Saturday. Check his other postings if you're intersted in hooking up with them for the drive.
AL325iCab 07-06-2007, 05:25 PM Someone actually just told me that it is possible to get a full 4day pass if you by in advance for the price of the 2 weekend days. Anyone know if there is anything good those first couple days?
murdoc158 07-06-2007, 05:50 PM Thursday is usually just a free-run/practice day. Friday there may be some qualifying, but nothing too interesting. If you plan on going Saturday and Sunday, the package is a good deal. You can always go check things out on Thursday and Friday, and I think you get a free program as well. I'll be there Sunday for sure, and Saturday depending on the full race schedule.
detroit635csi 07-08-2007, 10:29 PM totally worth it, i'll be there! Im driving an 08' euro spec audi R8 there with my dad...if you want to check it out come by the audi hospitality, or the pits....look for the 20 year old in the orange/red audi fire suit with a big nikon dslr
road america is one of the most famous/beautiful tracks in north america, it would be a waste to pass up such an opportunity....
Hope to see most of you guys there!!
AL325iCab 07-09-2007, 07:11 PM Wow I wouldn't mind seein that audi there. It's been said that audi has been doing their best to limit production numbers and keep the car a "rare" one...so I hear.
murdoc158 07-10-2007, 03:24 PM I just checked RA's website. Badger Bimmers has a page listing the food options for the particular days. Looks like it's not free this year.

Bimmerstrasse presented by Bimmerbadger BMW CCA
Road America welcomes the Milwaukee Badger Bimmer Club to the 2007 establishment of a permanent BMW Car Corral. Plans are to locate outside of Turn 14 across the track from Pit In and along the tree line for some shade during the day. The Milwaukee Club will be pruning, putting up a split rail fence, and adding a cement pad and small storage building to hold their vintage sign from the original Corral which has been saved for all these years. Drive your BMW right into the Corral, meet and greet other owners. Register on Friday to win a personal hot pit tour or to be an honorary crewmember for the ALMS Race day on Saturday. Get in some great BMW conversation under the tent, and rest a bit before heading to the paddock over the Oneida Nation walkover bridge or through the new Kohler Tunnel to get up close to the drivers, cars and crew as they prepare for competition.
Add to that a seat in the Hospitality Tent for a catered lunch each day. Purchase prior to July 27, 2007 for one or all days as listed below.
No Refunds.

We are working on that - (Darcy and I) - We are not going to be doing anything Sunday as the Formula BMW race is over and so is ALMS.
Since it is our 35th Anniversary we are trying to something like last year for at least on Saturday.
The information on RoadAmerica's webpage, that you linked, is not correct, and was not listed by Badger Bimmers.
FYI:
THE ALMS RACE IS ON SATURDAY
THE FORMULA BMW RACE #2/CHAMP CAR ATLANTIC RACE/WORLD SERIES GRAND PRIX IS ON SUNDAY
