Need some help guys. I searched couldnt find any previous discussions

A friend has a 07 335 Sedan with idrive, there is a setting within idrive for welcome lights which turns on the tail lights and corona rings when you unlock the doors. I have a 07 335 sedan too but without idrive and it does not do this when I unlock the doors. I accepted this as an idrive option then today I saw a guy unlock his new 328 sedan which did not have idrive and his rings came on.

I went though the setting configuration on the 328 and didn't see any special settings. Even set mine up exactly as his but still woudn't work.

Anyone know where this setting is on a car with out idrive??

I've read this advertized with aftermarket upgrades to the angel eyes, look for the 'remote wire', you splice it in somewhere to provide this functionality.

My question would be whether it's true that you can program this with iDrive or whether your friend just has aftermarkets

I believe you can access this through the computer stalk when you have the car parked. I know mine come on and I don't have iDrive, was set that way from the factory. Take a look at the manual too, cause I remember seeing that option on there.

Flip your headlight switch to the auto mode (all the way counter clockwise). This will enable welcome lights.

Lights in auto doesn't work and I've been through the setting and haven't found anything welcome light related. Not sure if its something new they started programing at the factory or if its a setting.

You have to go through the menu items on the stalk with the car running and NOT moving. There is a setting menu with a picture of a Key I believe, and within that, settings for lights. You have to set the day time running lights to come on when the car is unlocked. There is also a delay for how long they stay on when you lock the car at night. It's there, (at least for a 2007 coupe). Re-read your owners manual if need be.

Off topic but did anyone read the Aug 07 C&D...and I quote "The 335i does everything remarkably well, which is why many of us at 'Car and Driver' think it's the best all-around car in the world." <<I love mine:)

FYI-- Per a trainer at BMW university this option is programed at the factory starting with 3/07 production on the sedans. There is no setting for this but will be activated by the dealer when a software update is available. I don't have it to show but I did see a 3/07 change point bulletin showing numerous other changes made in 3/07. My car was 2/07 production damnit.

You can switch the coronas on 335i Coupe on/off to you preferance. It is in the same location where you check your oil level. Your owners manual will show you how.

Hey guys, do you know if there is an update available yet? I have a Sept 05 build date and I want to know if its available yet? I asked my dealer and hes feeding me crap that its only on the coupe and I had a sedan as a loaner car and it had the option when you unlocked that the angel eyes and rear lights would illuminate. Whats up? please let me know!

Something is wrong with your car. Setting the lights to auto will turn on the welcome rings. I have adaptive headlights. Do you? This might be an adaptive feature only.

I agree with Grubster..on my 2008 328xi coupe, that feature can be enabled/disabled through the menu using the stalk. The instructions at least for the 2008 is in the owners manual.
