VOTE THE BASTARDS OUT next chance you get!!

ORGANIZE- a lot of people wll be unhappy very soon when these fees get handed out regularly.

Start with the 2 local boys, have a "park-in" at their local offices- every weekend.

Del. David B. Albo (R-Fairfax) calls them, are part of the state licensing fees and cannot be imposed on out-of-state drivers.
LUCKY YOU!

Del. David B. Albo (R-Fairfax) and Del. Thomas D. Rust (R-Fairfax), who co-sponsored the fee legislation, project that $65 million to $120 million will be raised annually to cover costs of snow removal, pothole repair and grass-mowing.

On YOUR BACKS!

I have not read all of the changes; but, the ones I see, what is the problem?

Most of them are harsh penalties for doing something stupid like DUI or reckless. I'm sorry; but, 20 mph over the speed limit is fairly serious. So, if you want to speed -- be prepared to face the consequences if you get caught.

If it were 10 mph over, etc .. then, I would perhaps understand; but, reckless is pretty serious... and, the whole D.L. issue -- that is thrown out if you legitimately have a license.

If you've ever driven around annandale/alexandria, there are many minorities that do not have insurance or D.L's on the roads. I was hit by one in my Lexus when I first moved here -- I didn't care since it was my daily driver; but, many of you would care. A cop showed up -- guy could not produce a D.L., insurance, or even title to the car. I told cop I don't care ... since it was only minor scuffs to the bumper ...

That's a blanket statement.

35mph in an 15mph elementary school parking lot?

Absolutely.

75mph in the left lane of I-66 on a sunny Sunday afternoon with minimal, if any, traffic?

That's not reckless. In fact, that will often get you high-beamed so faster traffic thats lined up behind you can get by.

Man, I'm glad that the police down here don't have your attitude or I'd get pulled over all of the time for fitting the profile.

vroom -- I'm a minority as well -- and I lived in alexandria :rolleyes -- so, I am speaking from living there, knowing people there, and, having accidents there.

I do not get it. Some people's comments are acting like it is their 'RIGHT' to drive -- it's not a right, it is a privilege.

Don't get me wrong -- I understand where people are coming from. Crap, I used to own a stg. 2.5 AA turbo M3. So, I love speed just as much as other people.

But, I have never been on I-66 on a weekend with minimal amount of traffic from 495 to 29. Everytime I go on there, there's an accident or heavy traffic and I live out here.

I do agree that some people drive 75 mph easily -- but, why not pull over and drive 74 mph and let people pass you and this ensures you will not get a reckless. Don't get me wrong, I probably drive around 65 mph in a 55 mph zone ... but, I almost never go above 75 mph ... even if I have a mile visibility with no traffic ahead of me ...

For that brief instant of speeding -- not worth it. If you've ever been to Summit Point and gone 140 mph into T1, you'll realize that driving fast on the highway is not as fun as you once thought it was. The commonwealth is evil with their rules and regulations -- but, it's something you have to live by - no way around it.

I realize you are attempting to make a point, so I will concede to the fact that if someone wants to avoid any sort of ticket, all they have to do is obey the law to the letter. Agreed and understood.

But in reality, I would guess that 99% of the posters on this forum (as an example) routinely drive with the flow of traffic on the highways of their state, or state they are traveling in. And I can without hesitation state that the flow of traffic on I-95, I-66 and many other roads in VA..can easily be 75mph or higher. Maybe not during rush hour, but most other times? NO one is doing 55mph on those public highways. And if we are talking an extended road trip through the more rural, less congested Western parts of Va? You can easily set the cruise and cruise at 75-80mph all day long safely and securely. Many of VA's highways are just as wide and just as straight as highways in other states (South Carolina comes to mind) that have 70-75mph posted speed limits. If their highways have been deemed safe enough for 70mph travel...

And one could argue that it's more dangerous to have closing speeds of greater than 20mph that it is to be speeding. Meaning..all things considered..on an open, dry highway. If 30 cars are going 75mph and 10 are doing 55mph? Thats more dangerous than all 40 cars driving 75mph together.

Face it..VA has a bit different mentality than other states..hence it STILL being the only state with an ban on radar detectors.

Agreed. When I moved down here from NYC, it took all of one day, looking out the window of my apt, to realize that traffic enforcement in Arlington was more draconian than that which I'd encountered in NY. I read some Mid-A posts here and learned the rules - never 20 over, never over 80, etc. When I saw cops on virtually empty residential streets hiding behind parked cars with radar detectors, i realized that the police clearly had lots of free time on their hands to practice traffic enforcement.

I adjusted my driving accordingly and so far, so good - no tickets.

Track time and age does definitely seem to curb the need to do 90 on the highway - though I'm considerably slower than 140 mph entering T1 at Summit :(.
