i have just purchased a 1995 740I with 105 k miles. when i start from cold in morning, i get lifter noise???, until motor starts to warm. when i bought car changed oil to 5/30 syn oil, started making noise. i just changed again and went to valvoline 10/40 oil for engines w/over 75k miles(non syn). the noise continues!!!. the engine runs smooth once warm and makes no unusual mech noise. i am also having check engine lite come on but will go off and on . when on car wants to idle rough. i am new to this car and would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

johnpaul, thanks for your reply. the engine only idles rough when check engine lite comes on warmed up or cold, otherwise after warm up and no check engine lite, the engine is quiet and smooth at idle. the only time i hear noise is when started from cold and lasts until engine warms up. i read that tech b/4 i bought the car

Your car may have a faulty ignition coil. Moisture may be accumulating in one of the spark plug wells overnight and until it dries out voltage may be lost causing poor ignition on that cylinder.
