View Full Version : Bumped from behind
lkthelen 06-25-2007, 09:19 PM Coming back from Corvallis, I stopped short of the car ahead of me and the guy behind me bumped into me. The damage seemed superficial, mostly I could read one of the fellow's license plate numbers in my lower bumper. The body shop (S&S in Albany) found that there was no other damage and the other fellow's insurance is picking up all the tab, including a rental Dodge Charger with 3.5 l v-6 (it's not too bad of a POS, just not a BMW, not even close).
The up side is that Pete, who IS S&S, is going to clean up the front end of my ZHP, where I've hit various curbs before I figured out the limits (park back of all of them...) for only $100. I feel blessed! Think I'll even tip him a $20.
Pete does really good work, BTW, just not the way BMW wants things painted. Color match on the driver's side he did last year (after being keyed in my work parking lot in Eugen) is still very good.
All for now,
stang65 06-26-2007, 01:13 PM thats cool how he's going to fix the front. I still cant get over how you can read the plates number of the kid who hit you though:lol. well hopefully it turns out as good as the last time it was painted.
good luck

I walked over there today and got a look at my primered front end. The clean up job looks good. And Pete says he'll be done tomorrow! Enough of the Charger!
Driving it home today, I tried to get it to spin the rears with no luck. I held the brake down and loaded the driveline...nothing. It does move out pretty good with the 3.5 liter but I'm pretty sure our bimmers would take it...
Enough speculation.
stang65 06-27-2007, 01:22 AM LOL I dont know our boss seemed to want to race alot while he was driving the one he got as a rental when his f-150 was in the shop. I didnt want to race him and get fired the next day.
enzof355f430 06-27-2007, 09:15 PM Yeah the 3.5s are pretty slow, you should go drive a 5.7 or the 6.1, they are hella quick. I had a 5.7 to 80MPH half way through a pretty short onramp. Lots of fun! Still love the feel of the BMW though. GL with your car getting repaired, hope all turns out well.

stang65 06-27-2007, 10:55 PM well thought I would post a pic for him of the finished front end

Would you believe that Pete only painted the lower part of the front fascia. I couldn't see where his paint is blended in with the original.
and then he clear coated the entire piece. For $100!
Rear piece is even nicer. He found a nick in the black piece at the bottom of the bumper, fixed that and repainted it.
See if I can get a photo of that in this message. Great to have the bimmer back - took Springhill home, passing traffic and having fun in the corners!
stang65 06-28-2007, 12:07 AM isnt that like the long way home for you like five minutes one way and 25 the other

Pics of wheels?
lkthelen 06-28-2007, 11:32 PM Pics of wheels?
I haven't posted enough yet to be able to do images. And I'm not quite ready to sell the 135s. Best I can do for now is that 3 of the 4 have curb rash. Whether it's bad or not is up to you. All 3 have gone through the paint slightly into the metal but are not bent. When I'm ready to sell, I am also thinking of letting them go with the tires, Yoko AVS ES100s, almost new at this point.
I did stop by Beggs Tire in Corvallis today, on my way to an appointment. They will meet Tire Rack's price for the wheels so will be buying them there when the time comes.
hello thought i would say hi.

Springhill is a badass little road.
Hey if you spot a black 01 Mustang GT with 18" Boyds and silver/blue flames on it down there in Albany, that's my buddy Rob.
Give him the finger, lol.
lkthelen 07-07-2007, 09:43 PM Springhill is a badass little road.
Springhill to either Buena Vista Rd or Corvallis-Independence Rd. - my kind of roads! Especially the section of Corv - Indep just north of the junction with Springhill. I used to be able to get my motorcycles airborn on the last rise going north. The ZHP --- almost...
ho ho ho!

Concur. You need to work more overtime to afford all the sh*t that's happened to your ride.
FWIW, I've got 46k on the ZHP and nothing has broken. But then I'm old and drive like a German Grandfather.
stang65 07-09-2007, 02:46 AM the only way they'll get me to work more than five days at a time is if they started paying me alot more I put in my year of 12-18 days strait. I could use the money but being able to live with family, my girl, and the BMW family also means alot more.
