i was reading this article this morning...

"The cars the teens had so meticulously souped up and tricked out were crushed Wednesday as part of a crackdown on illegal street racing in Southern California."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19339955/

Makes me think twice about dragracing on the streets

so why don't they open a legal drag strip in S. Cal....back in the days...there was Terminal Island...now we have to go to Fontana, SD, or LACR

Only LACR and Fontana have a 1/4 mile, and we all know how much LACR sucks. That basically leaves Fontana, but it's rarely open and it's quite far from downtown LA (an hour with no traffic). Bottom line is there needs to be more tracks.

I know this won't be a popular opinion but.......
That is what is wrong with our society, The fact that it is illegal and you could kill an innocent bystander doesn't make people think twice about street racing but have your car destroyed and people get all up in arms.
I think they should leave the person in the car when thy crush it.

I think more than less people would agree that street racing isn't such a good idea on here.

Today, as i was driving around and at a stop sign, I noticed a black lowered acura integra was pulled over by a Westminster Cop...

The cop was looking under is hood and writing him up on a ticket...and yes he had a silver intake under the head and the cop was pointing at it.

the car itself was clean, no stickers or "ricer" exhaust.

and as for the driver, his hands were covering his head in disbelief...

oh well.....

Not 1/4 mile, and 1/8 mile isn't much fun for most of us. It's better to just street race when the roads are open, and obviously not stop for the police. If I do, they might take my car. :D

their cars arent gettin crushed cuz street racing by the way... it's cause they were caught street racing and had stolen parts on their cars like engines, trannies, and other big things, thats why they were being crushed, not cuz of street racing only.

Not just stolen parts. Parts with missing VIN's too.

Thats a joke

20 milliion people and we have maybe one or two tracks that are open to the public for avg drag racers

LACR gone

Banning hasnt even opened yet

What do the San Diego guys do? Drive a bunch of hours, sit in the lanes and get one run....maybe two?

When I was on the east coast and in Idaho local tracks were open for regular guys to make multiple passes in one night....basically as many as you car could stand

SoCal drag racers have very very few choices Terminal Island was a great strip for the SouthBay area....closed....LACR being the nearest track...closed.....now you have to drive for hours and HOPE to get more than ONE pass

Not exactly a realistic alternative for the thousands of racers just wanting to make some passes

My track in Idaho was more than an hour away so its not like I am asking for much but I also got to make more than one pass....Capitol in MD had a pretty efficient lane staging so most people got at least 4 passes during the night races....

Being stuck in Palm Desert means I have to drive at least an hour to see any of these tracks which isnt bad but gas/entry fee....to make ONE pass....not much of a soloution if the government sees "street racing" as a major problem

SO the poor owners of said parts never get them back or even know they were recovered?

Japanes motors dont have VINs so they just crush the motor? I swear cali laws get dumber every year

Nice

What constitutes a "race"

WHen you leave the law to make up the rules as they go along you get some gross interpretations of the law

"Well you were doing 5 over and you were pulling away from the car next to you....you must have been street racing!!!!!"

So they tow you car and crush it and your insurance company says tough luck kid, you were street racing so we arent going to pay off your car......the kid owns a new car lets say..a BMW... and cant afford to keep his current payment and buy a new BMW to replace it so he ends up driving a POS until he pays off the now crushed BMW

If a cop did that to you would you be a little miffed about this new law? I think so

Speeding is speeding

I would be willing to bet more people die because people are talking on their cell phones, eating, shaving, putting their make up on or doing some other stupid thing behind the wheel than an actual honest to god "three honk" street race that was setup between two drivers

The problem is "race" gets thrown around and instead of two kids getting busted for reckless driving in their festivas.....suddenly they are "street racers" with all of 90hp and 0-60 in 10 seconds and their cars get crushed

No one died, no one was injured yet their cars are scrap because of a "judgement" call

If you apply this to "street racing" than DWI, DUI drivers should get their cars crushed too because they were potentially putting innocent people at risk

Would you agree that someone caught for DUI should have their car crushed?

Oh please. There's a world of difference between a stoplight or freeway race and organized street races that draw dozens to hundreds of cars. There's also a world of difference between a stoplight or freeway race when there's nobody else around and people trying to relive the Supra vs. Ferrari scene from the Fast and Furious. You're either turning a blind eye or just flat out ignorant. Either way, you aren't looking at the reality of the situation.

This is such a cop out. If you want to race you have to go to a track. Is it that hard to drive 50 minutes to do something legally. Should we build 1/4 mile strips in the center of town?

Come on.

It's 2+ hours for us in San Diego. That's not worth it to me for 1 or 2 passes.

Let the ricers drag race, BMWs are road course cars. Go to nasaproracing.com and pick your region. Then go racing on a real race track.
