My fiancée and I just completed a 5 day trek across the US from Raleigh, NC to Hillsboro, OR. I recently finished grad school and am going to work for Intel, hence the relocation. My M3 is currently still in transport :(

This forum seems relatively active, so I am looking forward to meeting some fellow car nuts around here. I added my name to the list for the karting event and I hope to hit up PIR (road course and drag strip) at least a few times this summer.

Other than this section of bimmerforums, are there any other local boards or local BMWCCA-like clubs I should check out?

Looking forward to meeting some of you :drink1

Welcome to the PNW.

What kind of work will you be doing at Intel?

What school are you coming from? NC State?

Check out BMWACA

www.bmwacaportland.com

They have events at PIR and maybe other tracks. I attended a PIR event in May. Cheapest DE I've ever had to pay for.

If you venture south for a drive or to track in norcal, be sure to contact me.

Welcome to the left coast.

my official job title is Test R&D Engineer. i don't have a ton of details yet (since i don't start until july 2nd), but i will be working on the test side of things... mainly developing testing processes for devices/chips @ the 45nm level and beyond

yes, i am coming from NC State! do you have a connection w/ the area?

cheap is good! i've only got 5 DEs under my belt, four of those were at VIR (awesome track and facilities!) and one at roebling road... i am looking very forward to checking out PIR. i do want to make it down to thunderhill (this is the northern-most track in california, correct?) sometime as well, and maybe up to the seattle area, but that might not be until next year.

Welcome!

Did you get to spend much time site seeing on the drive out? One of my most memorable trips was moving here (we drove obviously).

There is a BMW/Tri-Club track day this Friday if you are interested in checking out the local scene. It's booked, but if I can get away from the shop for a few hours I'll get you some rides and introduced to plenty of people. If you're gonna head out I'll pm you my cell number so it's easier to find me there.

I used to work at a wafer reclaim facility up Vancouver.
Eddie and Dave at AR used to work at an oxidation and metals dep service provider up there as well.
45nm!!! That's amazing. The cleanest 300mm wafer my co ever produced was in the .09um range.

Nope. Just like college basketball and college football :)

we took as much in from the car as we could... we were traveling with a dog and a cat, so we pretty much just drove. it was a very enjoyable drive though.

i am pretty busy unpacking, etc. right now, but i do appreciate the info about the track day, and thanks for the offer to introduce me to some folks... i may take you up on that in the future!

looking forward to the bbq :)

that's cool, my dissertation focused on thin film deposition actually, but i'm looking forward to trying something new. intel is already planning for 22nm devices, it's pretty crazy!

as for college sports, the triangle (raleigh, durham, and chapel hill) was the place to be. i was never really into it before i moved there, but it becomes unavoidable after a while
