I have been eyeing up some rear spoilers down at the scrappy's , But one in particular that was on an older 525, I'll try and exp[lain the best i can, it was bolted either side but the bolts were exposed through small holes at the side of the trunk, Which i don't have on mine, it looks like to me to be original just not very clever, plus there seemed to be some rust issues, anyways this was completely different to another one i saw, that was joined at three points, just wondering how simple it is to fitt 1...................:help

it would be nice just to get a rear lip spolier.

Any recommendations?

Most ALL of the more substantial deck/boot spoilers will have 4 holes carefully drilled to the sides in the lids jamb areas.
Once drilled....they need to be de-burred, then primed with a small brush (AT LEAST):nono.
I personally follow up with a automotive seam sealer before I final bolt.Water proofed was the goal.

Nonesense!
Just get your spoiler of choice, preferably something REALLY big because that is just ghetto fabulous:

Then just use industrial 3m Double sided foam tape:

Seriously I would get a lip or http://www.uline.com/Images/transparent.gifan M5 spoiler. From there (with the M5 spoiler) just line up the drill holls, renforce them a little (even if it is something as simple as thick washers under the trunk) and bolt on. Make sure you water proof it.
Personally I would go lip of the two as it is easier and more stylish since the spoiler is non-functional (which is the definition of rice!).

I just installed a racing dynamics rear spoiler "designed" for an E34.
Designed my butt! There was no possible way to install the hole in the center of the spoiler because when I dropped a screw in it, I never saw the screw when I looked under the trunk lid because the friggen screw came out between the 2 sheets of metal on the vertical part of the trunk lid and there's no way to get to it w/o using a hole drill through the inside sheet of metal so I can access it with a screwdriver.
Anyways, before realizing this blunder, I made a template of the bottom of the spoiler, laid the spoiler into postion on the trunk and used blue masking tape to transfer the template onto the trunklid and drilled 2 holes on each end of the trunk as well as the center hole. I caulked the holes and used a foam mouse pad to make gaskets for the holes and used blue loc-tite to screw in the spolier and it's strong as heck.

The center stanchion versions like this are supposed to have a step drilled hole underneath like that. YOU just have to make it. No biggie.Sounds like you did it right.
The AC Schnitzer Kevlar is 2 leg/stancion type. The holes are drilled so far outboard that they end up being in the jamb area.
