Can someone tell me if these calipers are the correct ones for the Volvo/Girling caliper swap?

Could they be the non-turbo ones perhaps?

They dont look right at the back, the girling units dont tend to have a heart shape area where the lines screw in. If the spacing between the mounts and the thickness of the caliper was still the same, it wouldnt matter though.

The seals in that will be stuffed though and would need replacing. You hard up for a set of calipers? i nearly fell over 3 or 4 pairs yesterday. :D

Hell, Hadrian, just let me know if you went a set and I'll get you some next time I'm at the wreckers. I think they're about $25 each or something, but don't quote me.

excuse my ignorance. but the volvo/girling calipers...whats the deal with those??? are they just a simple bolt on mod for better front brakes? if so how much better?? is it worth it??

They're mostly bolt on be require some custom work with a die grinder and bending up some brake lines.

For us 4 cyl guys, they're cheaper than the stock non vented calipers and 323i vented calipers, and have about 30% more pad surface area, plus they allow us to upgrade to the 323i vented rotors for better cooling. So, cheaper than stock, more clamping force, and better cooling.

For you 323i guys the upgrade is less since you already have vented rotors.

IMO Im still going to install the Girlings. I figure for only $100 more I can have the added benefit of 4 pistons and increased area.

My 320 stops much better then the 323 atm, but Im sure the added weight of the M20 is a factor.

Madhatter - I've just been looking on ebay, It's hard for me to get to wrecking yards to get any, which brings me to my next point....

Greg - That would be great if you could get some for me :) I can chuck you some money before hand if you want.

Thanks all,
Hadrian
