View Full Version : 00-Mcoupe Supercharger options?
Adam P 02-21-2003, 03:45 AM Owners,
I am about to pick up my new 00 Mcoupe! I am considering the RMS stage 2 SC kit but there seems to be alot of negative feeling about there software and tuning ability.
What kits are good? I am looking for 330+ RWHP and I plan to spend about 8k or so for mods and I dont want to mix and match parts if I can avoid it.
Does anyone have any pics of the RMS stage 2 kit installed? Any testominals? any other kits I should consider?
Thanks for your help,
Adam Piotrowski

Adam P 02-21-2003, 03:34 PM ///m roadster,
If I read your posts correctly you are happy with your stage 3 setup from RMS? I think I would be happy with a stage 2 but like you, I might have to keep adding parts until it was at its limits. I look at the AA website and I must say I was not to impressed, The Dinan site also was lacking luster to me as the only change from stage 1 to 2 is an exhaust (according to the site). I do not want to put 5-8k under the hood and NOT exceed 300 rwhp. I have some pals here in TX who have dinan setups on there 4door m3's and I was not real happy with the overall power so I was hoping the rms kit would offer me that.
Thanks for your post, any more comments would be welcome,

RyanC 02-21-2003, 04:33 PM Adam, I'm quite pleased so far with the performance of my car. 297whp on a Mustang dyno is no laughing matter, certainly Phillip makes a lot more power but his setup runs a lot more boost and has an upgraded headgasket; and probably cost a wee bit over $8k, right Phil? ;) I've got some feedback, pics and my before/after dyno charts on my web site if you'd like to take a look, and feel free to hit me up with any questions. To me though, and extra 10-15whp at the potential expense of a 'ragged edge' chip isn't worth it, as I want my motor to last.

SilverStreak 02-21-2003, 04:38 PM I have the equivalent to an RMS Stage 2 set up on my Z3 3.0, $9K invested, including installation and tuning, and I've been thrilled with my car's reliability and the results...
///MINI 02-21-2003, 04:47 PM I'm very happy with my setup. I would have been happy with the 332 rwhp of the Stage II, but there was an opportunity for me to get upgraded to Stage III with Osh Minelian doing the work himself. So, I went ahead and did it. Although, I did spend a "wee bit" more than $8K. That being said, I think my setup is pretty damn good right now. The software on my car has been used as the base RMS Stage III software for other similarly equipped cars.
///MINI 02-21-2003, 04:50 PM One thing I would consider is that RMS recently lost Jeff Zusman, who used to be the Head of Customer Service there. Jeff was critical in answering questions and keeping clients happy. Osh really isn't focused on that aspect of his business, so customer service and responsiveness has gone down a bit from what I gather. There's a new fellow that's stepped in to pick up the slack where Jeff left off, but we'll have to wait and see how that works out.
DakarDave 02-21-2003, 05:40 PM Yes, that new person is Matt and from my dealings with him, he seems to be doing an excellent job.
I contacted him regarding a fan issue I was/am having and he has always responded in a timely fashion.
Adam P 02-21-2003, 08:12 PM ok,
I called RMS Today to ask about the stage 2 kit and here is what happened.
I was told that the stage 2 kit cost 9900.00, and that the web site is wrong. This makes me mad and has really upset me to the point that I most likley not get any rms products. I saw a post on one of the other posts that stated they would give 1500 off the purchase of a kit in october, making the stage 1 kit about 4500, but he said that the stage 1 kit is 7990.00 and any discount would put me at 5900 for the kit..... Absoulte CRAP...
Reduclous... I called up a pal who has a e36 m3 with a dinan blower and a custom software and a custom intercooler and he makes 410 flhp, making about 340 hp at the wheels. The dinan kit is 6k, the software and front mount cooler is 3200 installed, that is too much for me. The maker of the software and intercooler said if I can get just the blower and mounting hardware used by rms or dinan I would be well off becuase the intercooler he makes replaces all of the piping, and has its own software so I dont need that either. I rode in his car today and his car was boosting at 9lbs in second and it felt good!!!
So anyone have a used rms stage 1, or dinan state 1 for sale? I might just go with dinan stage 1 and wait a year or 2 for the intercooler and upgraded software....

DakarDave 02-21-2003, 09:49 PM >I was told that the stage 2 kit cost 9900.00, and that the web >site is wrong.
The kit should be 5400 for Stage I + 2800 for aftercooler,
so the price should be 8200.00
They do a new aftercooler (dual core) available and this cost more. Did you get a quote for the new style aftercooler?
>they would give 1500 off the purchase of a kit in october,

Who did you speak with? The stage I kit should be 5400.00.... 7990.00 is more than the dinan kit... and the RMS stage I and Dinan kit is almost a hardware duplicate of each other.....
Something doesn't seem right with the quotes you got......
-Dave
Adam P 02-21-2003, 10:09 PM What I dont understand is why the web site Quotes are not correct? I feel like I was being BS'd on the phone by RMS. I simply asked for the prices for stage 1, 2, and 3 and got numbers that are no where near what I was told others have paid.

///MINI 02-21-2003, 10:42 PM ...and there you have it. What did I tell you about customer service? 'Tis a shame, my friend, a crying shame.
SilverStreak 02-21-2003, 10:50 PM Adam, with whom did you speak at RMS? That sounds awfully screwy...

I dont recal who I talked to but I knew I was being played buy the way he was talking to me.. I said the web site has info that is much different then the prices you are telling me and he said the prices on the site are WRONG and he even said " I would know the prices of my own company", but I know it was not osh I was talking to.
Either way I have decided to make my own kit with parts from every suplier to get the best of all kits. I have a bmw shop here in town who has some software and custom pluming that I hope to use, just have to find a blower and mounting harware. Vortec will sell me a blower for cheep, and the software, plumbing, and intercooler will be about 3k, so just need the mounting hardware!!

SilverStreak 02-22-2003, 12:09 AM Adam, if you do decide to call RMS back, ask specifically for Matt. if he's not there, leave a message.
NoSoup4U 02-22-2003, 12:38 AM That seems very generous of your friend, 410 crank hp from 340 rwhp.... heheh.
FWIW -- I've called RMS about an aluminum radiator after Jeff and others posted here about it, I believe the price listed here was around $899, I was quoted $1499. I've called a couple times about other items.
This is just MY OPINION now, if you just call in and don't act like you know someone there, etc....it seems they kind of blow you off like some h.s. kid wasting their time....that's just my impression.

After looking at the site it apears to be the same intercooler. I am unsure if that is where he got his but they look alike, somewhat from what I remember.

James,
So in the case of your phone calls, does there selling technique make you want to purcahse any products from them? I will say that I am not going to get involved with a company who take advantage of possible clients and pulls there pants over there head. What would you do if you were a client who purchased a kit at this inflated price and found out that many others had got the same setup for thousands less, I would drive to CA and vandlize the hell out of there shop, ok well that is extreeme but you see my anger.
Adam P..
NoSoup4U 02-22-2003, 01:01 PM I can see your point; but, everyone has bad days and everyone has bad customer service at one point or another. Even AA I'm sure is not perfect, they probably treat me okay since they know my car.
So, I would still purchase from RMS -- I wouldn't let a few isolated incidents jade my view completely. However, AFTER I put them on notice of how I was treated, and how I was misquoted, I would expect them not to do it again. Thus, I'd try to just let it go for now and if it comes up again, then that's there loss.
Not only do they lose potential sales; but, it puts another blemish on their company. To ensure that this doesn't happen, I would assume they would try to take steps to remedy any problems. Then again, if all businesses were that smart, they would have loyal customers.
Adam P 02-22-2003, 01:36 PM James,
Thanks for your insite. I almost agree. I am a bielever in customer service and I cant stand to be lied to. If they will lie about prices, then they will lie to me when I ask if the blower in my car is a new one, or an old one (I read this case happing on this board). There is no trust, and when it comes to me spending thousands of dollars with then I want trust more then anything.
Keep in mind that customers who are unhappy with a companys product are likley to come back if the service is good, I never heard a saying if your sc sucks, and your product sucks.....
I talked to AA, Dinan, Ess, and RMS on the phone and they all were happy talking about there competition and there products except RMS. If I see a used RMS kit for sale I will possibly buy it, but I cant say I will send that company my business.
