Not terribly rare, I have one of each... '82 with, '78 without. It seems more early cars came without sunroofs. I prefer without. Yes there IS a weight difference, not sure what it is as I have not cut out all the sunroof parts and weighed them but I can tell you that the weight is in the absolute worst spot on the car. Most racing associations won't let you run with an operational sunroof-you must fill it in with a riveted or welded piece.

in cali you can get good use out of it. in rain land WA its bound to be a problem at some point. i also have model 60 ac conversion, take ac off roll down window and go 60

My 78 didn't have a sun roof, my 79 does, the Baur doesn't have a sunroof(I love the targa) and has more clearance than a no sunroof e-21 which is great at an auto-x on a rainy day....

The reason why some of us want no sun roof cars is if your 6ft3 your head sits on the roof on a 320 with a sunroof, without one you gain a couple more inches headspace.

Gotta remember that one....

Like kdanielson said tho, some racing sanctions require you to "delete" the sunroof and weld in a new piece of sheet metal. Or you could be really persnikity about it and weld in a whole new oem non-sunroof sheet metal roof.

I have only seen a handful of 320's without sunroofs. I personally could care less if it had one or not, but if it came down to it, I'd choose without. It's just one big whole in the structure with some added weight way above CG.

I'm 6'4" and had no headroom problems, with a sun roof... :confused

I'm 6'3" and haven't really had problems with sunroofs. My old '83 had one but the seat was so broken down I had plenty of room. My current '82 has one but I have aftermarket seats with fabricated mounts (removed the stock mounting humps) so I have plenty of room. My '78 daily driver does NOT have one with good stock seat and I fit well... I still prefer without a sunroof for the more rigid structure and weight savings alone. I don't like roasting in the sun much these days.

It's not a head room issue for daily driving for me, but when I put on a helmet in the 79 I have to contort to wierd positions to get in there...in the Baur with the targa panel no issues or contorting with a helmet on....

Is a car with no sunroof more rigid than one with?I was wondering if the extra folds in the sheet metal on one with, might actually stiffen it up.
